Celeste Really Breaking Dormancy

Greetings All

Last Fall when the garden centers were getting rid of their stock, we picked up a nice size (and the last) Celeste. I think it had a few small leaves that quickly dropped as did the temperatures. I placed this tree in our bright, but cool to cold sun room where it sat since time of purchase. The last few weeks, day time temps have been rising, coupled with longer day light hours, and our tree's buds swelled and soon popped leaves. This has continued now over the last few weeks and this tree is really growing.

Today, with afternoon temps in low 60's, I thought I would place outside for some direct sunshine, and gave it a nice drink of rainwater. Attached are a few pix during it's time basking in the afternoon sun rays here in Maryland. BTW, although temps in 60's today, tonight they are forecasting light snow, rain mix, followed by a drop by 20 degrees of daytime temps.

I'm sure others are experiencing this winter to springtime flux! Post some pix, or how you cope. My Brown Turkey and another Celeste are still sleeping in the colder garage.

I just noticed today that some of my young 2-3' trees (just rooted last year) are beginning to break dormancy. Just tufts of nice, new small leaves at the tips of branches. But these are only on the trees on warmer south side of the house. Those on the front drive are still dormant. Temps today are in the low 70*F. It's supposed to get cooler again next week, but no frost here.

Some cuttings started later in the summer, but still in small bands, are also breaking dormancy. Must get those up-potted one of these days. So many plants, so little time.

It's exciting to see the new growth.

Tomorrow snow in Zone 7!

I have two little trees situated in a south facing window as well.  It is warm here today also (temps in the low 60's), so right now they're getting some outside time.   Froze last night, and probably will again tonight, but my two indoor trees  are kickin it outside in the sun for another hour or two.  Hardy Chicago is looking real good, and the Havasu unknown is trying to put out figs all ready.   I cut a green branch off the mother tree and rooted it in August, and this week I pinched off two little figlets.

They're lovin the direct sunshine, but they're both coming in before dark.

Mark, as you know colder temps are on the way in our area.  There is supposed to be lows in the low 20s the next couple nights.  My trees are still asleep in the unheated, detached garage - essentially a garden shed at this point :)
