Changing the growing direction on a side growing limb?

I have a plant that has a limb growing straight out from the main trunk, My question is, If I make an air layer with the last node that is left on the tree with what I call the eye pointed up will that make the limb change to upward growth?
Thanks, just all you fig experts bear with me & my stupid questions.

Cecil,
no question is a stupid question i was told almost 30 years back when first learning how to drive a train and to me same thing applies to figs if one does not know he ask.
Now here is my sincere problem
I dont understand your question.  ; )

Im no fig expert but i can bare with you!

Well Martin,

How about I email you a pic. and show ya a little better what I'm talking about?

Cecil,
 i gotcha babe.
Yes if it pops it will grow upwards i have seen this on mine, looks kinda funny as imagine this.
All your limbs on main trunk are nice and horizontal then you have one nice horizontal limb but its 3/4 the size of all the others and near the end of that horizontal branch there is a stem going straight up toward the sky.
Here is example

Thanks Martin,

I had saw where Herman had limbs like that!(going straight out sideways, then take a sharp turn upwards, I wanted to find out how he did that!

Again, Thanks mucho!
