Charlotte, NC unknown

I was at Lake Norman over the weekend and look what I spied two doors down. Any ideas?

that's huge.. i think that tree can use some trimming :)

Pete, no doubt! Whats crazy is if I look at the Google Street View, it was about 1/2 the size whenever their car drove by. Any pruning ninjas down in Charlotte? :)

Any idea what the figs look like? I agree with Pete; it needs a good pruning. And I am sure it would thrive over here on the coast.

P.S. - You might check around some of those Cincinnati parks like Eden. I would bet their might be a hardy fig somewhere around there. I used to live in Batavia and attended the Flower Show back when they held it in the park. It's a shame they moved it to the amusement area.

A couple months ago there was a fig mapping post up on the forum. Since then, I've mapped the trees I've noticed walking and driving around in Charlotte. I was pretty surprised how common 30ft monster fig trees are once you start looking. I bet there are even more in warmer and more ethnic cities. Here is the map.

Spotted the biggest one I've ever seen today.

My pic was from aprx 339 Queens Cove Road Mooresville NC if you would like to add it to your map.

How does one add something to the map? There was a tree back in Houston. Tx that I wish I could get to again. Those cuttings rooted so fast and were so vigorous. If someone live in Houston and can get to it I would pay for them. I never got a chance to taste the fruit because I joined the military and gave those away.

Addison,

Small world.  I lived in Charlotte in the early 90's and as soon as I saw the photo I knew exactly where that house with the columns was.  : )

I live in Charlotte. There are a lot of back yard fig trees around. But in my research most are Celeste, Brown Turkey, Purple Magnolia, and Black Mission. If you drive through the old parts Charlotte where there are some tiny bugelows, you'll find some Greek and Italian fig trees. These are the best. I found one area where just about every home had at least one large fig in the back yard. I lost the address but I know the area so I'll have to drive around a bit to find it again.
