Cheating the season- Atreano in NH

The folks at the garden center/farm supply where I work part time were kind enough to let me put this three year old Atreano bush in the greenhouse.
When it went in the greenhouse it had 50 to 60 figs just coming out of the stagnant stage and beginning to ripen. We are down to the last few now and they have been better than I could imagine. I thought I was eating JH Adriatic when we allowed them to fully ripen, that is skin showing cracks and wrinkles. No pictures of the insides because we couldn't keep them out of our mouths long enough.

I love it!  I can't wait to taste my Atreano next year.

Is this the same as Golden Atreano?  I hope so, my list is getting out of control!!!

Jo-Ann,
I got the cutting that started this Atreano from Herman , so it is whatever he has.

Kerry, I don't remember why I put it on my list, I just know it's there!  And since yours is golden-ish maybe it is the same.  What color was the inside?

You had to ask them to put it in the greenhouse for them to continue ripening???  That is weird - you'd think they would do that automatically since it is a garden center and not Wal-Mart!

Just out of curiosity, how much are they selling that one for?

Jo-Ann ,
I brought this one from home, they did it as a favor to me and as a point of interest for customers who were not ready to let go of the Summer yet. They sold varieties that I propagated  and we offered Ronde de Bordeaux , Sal's GS ,
Marseilles Black vs , JH Adriatic and a couple of others I can't recall. We didn't sell too many , but are getting folks here used to the idea that they can grow well here with a bit of care. I let this one set too much fruit too late to ripen in the regular season, but it worked out well for a short term GH display and we got some fig tree customers once they tasted the fruit.
We're also training a JH Adriatic up one of the main GH supports and will pinch it well above table height and let it grow a couple of arms or more to follow the bracing in the GH. Again for ornamental display ,for something different, to boost fig sales and the fruit is light colored so not as many people will know when it is ripe and be tempted to pick without us offering it to them. I would have used RDB , but all those plants sold.
That one wasn't for sale and is due for a serious root pruning and haircut. I've got 2 of these Atreano this size , but a customer would have had to offer me $300. to pry this out of my hands, it is that good, and no one was going to do that.

I'm thrilled to hear it is sooo good! I just bought an Atreano ,origins from BelleClare today ! Can't wait to taste these next year .

What a great story!  I'm in the food/service industry and nothing sells better then a sample!  I hope they also took care of you for lending them a sales agent lol

very nice. <++++++ mouth watering, the biggest fig i have harvested was a purple magnolia about as big as an egg. i have seen some the size of oranges in pics but dont know if they really get THAT big or not. but all my trees are still young three years at most.since i got started in this new addiction.

Dave

Got a chance to get a picture of the inside of these Atreano before they were gobbled up.

They look great!  Someday, if I grow up, I'll have access to a heated greenhouse.
