Check and Checkmate

Hi All,

Earlier this afternoon, I was joking around with my g/f by telling her I was celebrating the end of her school year (she is a teacher) by ordering 8 more fig trees. When she asked if was serious , I laughed and told her I was kidding. She responded with "Dood, you have 150 fig trees, I don't think I would notice 8 more." CHECK. But then she continued with, "It is like when I buy shoes." CHECKMATE

*sigh*

You lucky son of a b!  Remind me to never play chess with you.

Thats so true James.

:)
Curious, what costs more over a lifetime?...
Figs need care, water, soil, pots, time, love, etc
Shoes are one time deal (hopefully!).

Return and pleasure are priceless in both cases!

Well, need it be pointed out that it's possible that James is benefiting from the shoe purchases too?  When your g/f is happy because she just got shoes she likes, maybe the happiness is shared.  I guess you could say the same about figs...  :-)

Mike

Great line!

my wife buys too many shoes too.

my wife can buy as many shoes as she wants, as long as she let me keep my figs and let me add more.. once in awhile.

This is hilarious. One question, there are several hundred types of figs we could collect, yes we do tend to more than one of the same type, but they never go out of style, new styles are rarely seen, and they last allot longer. Let's say a woman ( or man) is obsessed with shoes, they may have 80 -100 pairs, what is the turn over rate when new styles come in? At what cost?

Personally I never met a pair of shoes worth more than $50 however, I have friends that wouldn't blink at spending several hundred on one pair. That can be alarming depending on the number of pairs bought.

Good post James...a little humor in the morning is the best medicine.   :)  :)

True!  I use to rant and rave about my wife buying soooooo many shoes and soooooo many pocket books!  Guys, we live in a 5 br house.  I HAD to convert one 13 x 13 BR to a closet just to hold her clothes and convert the entire closet to a 5 tier show rack!

Years ago, she use to question all my figs.  Since I gave her all the room she needed for her clothes, shoes and pocket books.....all she says now is, "nice trees!"

Problem for me being a woman loving fig trees , shoes and pocketbooks !!! I'm in trouble .....   :-/

Tami I'm with you though -"Personally I never met a pair of shoes worth more than $50"

Tami....Pattee,,,,you ladies should see the shoes and boots that my wife has!  Fifty bucks?   OH YEAH!   You can triple that for some of her shoes and pocketbooks.  But I don't mind investing in what my wife is passionate about.  She's passionate about shoes, I'm passionate about figs.  Figs taste good!  :)

Sounds like you are both great supporters of each other ! Wonderful - that's how hubby and I are too.

My wife puts up with a lot, not just my figs, but a ton of succulents and assorted tropicals. I still have to poke at her when she comes home with a new pair of sneakers which seem to be her shoe of choice

Letting a GF dictate what you can buy James?  Turn in your man card:)  Wives on the other hand are a different story.

James,

At your phase I would consider making her a wife. Otherwise Will has a point ;)

Seriously though a happy gf/wife = a happy bf/husband

i have three pairs of shoes i wear. boat shoes and birkie for summer and hiking boots for winter. all of them cost pretty pennies. but they can be all resoled, and rebuilt. i call it sound investment. on the other hand, my wife has countless shoes and she wears maybe 5 or 6 of them... and always tells me that she doesn't have any to wear. my response is always "yes honey, you should get some more shoes".

I've often said, if she subdivided categories of shoes 4 times (lets say black, boots, 3" heel, square toe), any one group would contain more shoes than I own. I'm sure if I subdivided my trees like this, I would end up with similar numbers per group.  I've worn the same pair of sandals (my daily wear even in winter in Colorado [where she lives]) for the past four years.  People see my feet and comment on my "tiger stripes".  I have been looking to replace them for over a year, but have not been able to find another pair I like.  I am wondering how long it will take me to get new tan lines.

As for the man card... I'm with Bill Cosby on this one.  I'm not the boss [of the house].  I've seen what the boss does, and I do not want to be the boss!
