Check out my RED fig

This is not a gimmick. In fact I had checked my trees earlier and didn't see this one. It was hidden from sight behind a leaf. Coming by it from a different angle I notice something light colored, so I checked closer. Here is what I found. Again this is not a gimmick. Anyone have any idea. I will pick it tomorrow before I leave town for the week end. I really think it could go 2 days but I will not trust it to 3 days.

Do I hear $300 Dollars. :-))

That is crazy looking reminds me of an eye ball lol. What kind of tree is that on?

yea, really, an eyeball........ after an all nighter with 2 pots of coffee! haha Nice looking fig!

You got a freaky fruit there, wow very cool!!

Great, do I hear $400. Where else can you get and eyeball fig.

So Gene, Is this the first ripening fruit on an unknown variety?

Very odd looking fig by the way. I would call it very cool in my personal vernacular. If this color is consistent, it would become very popular for its ornamental value alone.

Don't leave us hanging man. Tell us more about this one :) .

Thanks for sharing nice pics how does 450 sound?

$450, now we're getting somewhere. Haha. I will pick it in the morning before I leave and I take a couple of pictures of the cut fruit. Then I might fess up, maybe.

good nite

I picked the fig this morning because I'm leaving town. I wish I could have waited until tomorrow at least. I was tasty, a little under sweet but good.
Picture of the inside and outside.

And the name is Palermo Red as I've been told by the donor.

"gene"

Ah, Gene, that one's a keeper! Great stripes. Is that typical of all the fruit, or is this the first one you've ripened? Where did you get it? My family came from somewhere near Palermo, so I love the name!

Maybe that color will scare the crapola out of dem fig eating birds and they will leave it alone.

Very pretty fig........

Looks the same as Leon's Aldo...can be seen here

Look at the bottom of the page at Leon's photos.

I was going to say Sal's C the second I saw the photo.

Isn't there a slight debate as to whether, Sal C, Aldo,Palermo, and Sicilian Red might be all the same fig?

Curious as always!

Good lucking fig Gene,

Do I hear $500?

I agree. That looks like Aldo. I picked one like that 2 days ago.

{EDIT}After further checking, I think I have Leon's Aldo

525.00 cash no check

Guys
you have to watch that Gene .
No where did he say offer for fig plant.

Read fine print below

Great, do I hear $400. Where else can you get and eyeball fig.

Gene i figure you have maybe 1500 worth of figs on plant !
If you dont eat them.
 ; )

Well I guess time will tell weather or not Palermo, Aldo, Sal's C, and Sicilian Red are the same. Martin you've a sharp eye, I didn't offer the tree for sale, only the fig. Of course I could never sell anything to my friends at that price anyway, but if you find me some suckers that would I'll split the profit with you. I was only playing on the price of the other Red fig that was for sale for 175 Dollars. Maybe TyTy might fall for it.

I must thank my friend J.A. Stallone for this one. He made an air layer off of the top of his tree for me. I did get to taste one on his tree that was fully ripe and it was marvelous. Mine ripened in partial shade which probably cause the colors as seen. The one I ate at J.A.'s house was fully colored a reddish brown.

Figluvah, what does yours look like. Is it anywhere close or are the leaves and fruit totally different.

Snaglpus, what did yours taste like.

Seems like I have more question than y'all.
"gene"

Better looking than that Bright Red Fig I saw.

If that one looked like yours I would not have hesitated for a second.
Gave him the cash and ran like the devil.
Beautiful fig.
Congratulations.

Nick.

@ Gene,

I think they look like twins to you red fig!

The only difference would be mine is in full sun.

I do know they have a great taste, I have some ripening on my Aldo's now I will post pix on your thread if that is OK if not I will start one myself

Cecil, post away. I want to see them as I'm sure everyone else. I will plant it in the ground this fall and should have an abundant crop next year. I'll have to ask J.A. where his came from. I think he told me but if I don't write it down I don't remember. It may have come from Leon.
"gene"

Gene your "thinking" is spot on!

EDIT...mine came from Leon in a round about way!
here is more on the fig (link below)

Gene,

I was planning on posting photos of my Aldo/Palermo red here,

Well last night something stole it!

I still have a few on the tree so we will keep checking it!

I know the feeling when something steals ya figs before you can taste them or take their picture. Something was stealing figs in my yard too......something that is big enough to break small branches on my trees. Something that was even hungry enough to eat some figs that were not ripe. Something that got under my fig net and left with a fuller belly. My guess it was a opossum or a racoon. I never did catch it in the act.....

Hope you get to taste and post pictures of your red fig. I was not able to get a picture of a Smith fig with those light red/purple stripes on them. Maybe will have better luck with the second crop figs.
