Check out this guy lying on craig's list

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/hsh/3340074821.html

He says they're organic but they're obviously just picked up from lowes for 5$!
If you look close at the picture you can see the osmocote sitting on top of the soil!

I hope you flagged it. That's BS!

I actually emailed him. Them realized how stupid that was so didn't flag. Afraid I'll get over run w/ spam.

I have a few email addresses for different purposes - one is especially for "anonymous" stuff.

Wow....I just paid 20 bucks total for 6 of these at Lowes. I don't think he's lying. He actually shows the tag from lowes.

Lol! I just paid 5 bucks at Lowe's for a Hardy Chicago.

If there's any lying here with this seller I would like to see it pointed out.
I don't see a problem with anyone buying stuff from big box stores and turning around and selling them.

I think the issue was with them being labeled as "organically grown" being as there are fertilizer pellets in the growing mix.

If we've learn anything here, it is... Don't piss off Jo-Ann!  I'm just sayin'

James,

Didn't think of it that way as for the organic part. You are right.
And so was the poster. ( Sorry )

I was thinking of it in a different way at first.

LoL to organic.

My guess is the guy bought the trees, no longer wants them, and is trying to get rid of them. Perhaps he has a misunderstanding of what 'organic' means. Many people do. Perhaps in his care they have been grown 'organically' - those old osmocote pellets can remain for a very long time.

As usual, let the buyer beware.

I agree, buyer beware, but I did tell the guy he's misrepresenting his product. I can see the osmocote in the picture. I also told him they'd probably be just as likely to sell if he didn't say they were organic.

Sure the pellets are visible. As I said, those empty little casings can remain for months long after the fertilizer is gone. He may not even know what they are. They may have come with the plants he bought. I'm just giving the guy the benefit of the doubt.

If the figs are labled correctly, that would be the more important for me. I wouldn't trust any stranger on Craig's list who says something is 'organic'. It's too easy to cheat on that. I would be far more concerned about something having been sprayed than just fertilized with osmocote. But that's just me. :)

You are correct Hortstu

At first I thought you were criticizing the seller for buying figs from Lowes and turning around and selling them. It didn't dawn on me you were talking about the ozmocote.
I didn't really pick up on it till James made his point.

Gina made a good point too. Need to give the seller a break.
Doesn't appear to be deceiving anyone.

Funny thing is, there have been members posting concerns  in the past about the Ozmocote pellets thinking they could be some type of insect eggs.

Rafed, I agree with almost everything you said.  But if that seller says they're organically grown, then he (or she) is deceiving people.  Deceit is deceit.  Whether he (or she) originally knew the statement in the ad was false or not is beside the point... Hortstu educated the seller about that (nice approach Hortstu, to email him).  So now at this point if that seller continues advertising these trees as organically grown, he/she is being deceitful.

I'd hate to seem like a jerk and make this into an argument but at most those plants have been in that guys possession since may. Just because he hasn't added fertilizer since then doesn't makes them organic. The ad is misleading. If I was looking for organic figs I'd feel ripped off.

Hortstu

You did nothing wrong and I don't consider this topic being an argument.
Mike ( Michealtuscan ) makes a good point.

Don't worry about it, Hortstu. You've been registered here less than a week. This is not an argument. ;)

Thanks,

I'd hate to be known as the boisterous new jerk.

well, you are all lucky that Lowes had them there...not here, not here.

It could be someone who knows nothing about gardening or growing figs.  A point made by Gina.

This person may have spotted figs at a great price and thought to make a quick flip.  I have seen where other people will "borrow" some wording from another listing.  I bet he doesn't know that he is being discussed on a fig forum :).

Flipping Figs! Could be a new TV show.... buy a clearance fig for 5$, pot up to larger/nice container, take some nice photos and "organically" grow it. Lots of money to be made out there....

Here is my favorite ad from CL that some guy keeps renewing over and over...wonder why he can't sell these plants?

Thanks for the laugh ohjustaguy.  Needed that after a hard day at work.
Think I'll buy a plane ticket to head out to California and snatch up those dead fruit trees before they are gone:).

Don't laugh too hard.  In California, back in the 60's and 70's, Thousands and thousands of Orange Trees were dug up from orchards in Orange County (anyone remember when Orange County had orange groves?), and trucked over 200 miles north to Tulare county, where they were replanted into new orchards.
