Chicago Fig Help

Hello.  I bought a Chicago Fig and planted it inside for about 2 months.  It was doing great!!!  As the weather became warm here in Michigan, I bought a bigger container and moved my Chicago Fig into the bigger container and outside.  The leaves are now starting to curl and turn white.  Please help me with my fig tree.

Sounds like sunburn to me.  Give it some shade.  You can put an umbrella over it if the pot is too heavy to move.  Slowly give it more sun.  You can remove the umbrella in the evening after the sun starts going down.  You'll probably lose the leaves that are turning white, but new leaves will grow in.

Good luck with her.

Yep sun burn, I did it to most all of my cuttings a little over a month ago. They lost all their leaves, they are just starting to open new buds. Its heart breaking to see them go from great to sticks. I guess its just lost growing time, thank goodness not death.

Young figs like that do much better in mostly shade (50%).
Also tiny fig in big pot can lead to problems of soil staying too wet better up-pot 1 size at a time.

Thank you for your quick replies. I will try shading her.

I agree, you are going to have a hard time with that big of a pot. Done it many times myself. My experience is that it will stop growing for a long time. Ive killed several new plants that way. I would repot it in a smaller one.

Thank you.is it safe to repot? It's been in that pot fotias 10 days and suffering from sunburn. I do see new growth.

It is a risk either way. Personally i would. If it were a well draining mix it would be better off staying. but it looks like it will drown in that mix.

I keep my little fig plants under the mulberry tree - they love the filtered light. 🌿🌞
I'd avoid repotting again. Poor thing has been stressed enough for a while. Best to repot when it's dormant, and hopefully it will have grown in by then.

Thank you both. I see new growth with no sunburn. I'm going to wait to repot until it's dormant. Hoping she makes it πŸ™‚

Hello. I wanted to update everyone that my fig tree is growing. I moved the pot to a spot that gets sun but also periods of shade throughout the day. As for watering, I water it thoroughly once a week and the other days I give it about 8 ounces of water. I do have a question though, some leaves seem to have bumps on them and others still have white spots. This is on the new growth. Again thank you for your help.
