Ciccio Nero grown in ground is coming on strong now ripening a plate a day. Most of the container grown Ciccio Neros have already ripened all their figs.
Interesting attached photo shows a container grown 3 yr old Ciccio Nero with 43 figs all ripening at the same time. Have never noticed this phenomenon before.
Actually I picked them over a few days.
For comparison figs from the in ground 20 yr old Ciccio Nero (top rows).
I find the in ground figs are much bigger but not as black and sweet but not super sweet like the container grown.
In ground figs had a nice light figgy aroma, little seed crunch, medium sweet with rich berry flavour. The container grown figs were super sweet (over powering), little seed crunch and very chewy skin.
Threw in a few walnuts and Hazelnuts in the plate. Can’t beat the taste of a fig accompanied by some fresh nuts right off the tree and grandma's fresh baked biscotti.
Comments and ideas welcome.
Enjoy!
