Ciccio Nero 2015

Ciccio Nero grown in ground is coming on strong now ripening a plate a day.   Most of the container grown Ciccio Neros have already ripened all their figs.
Interesting attached photo shows a container grown 3 yr old Ciccio Nero with 43 figs all ripening at the same time.  Have never noticed this phenomenon before.
Actually I picked them over a few days.
For comparison figs from the in ground 20 yr old Ciccio Nero (top rows).
I find the in ground figs are much bigger but not as black and sweet but not super sweet like the container grown.
In ground figs had a nice light figgy aroma, little seed crunch, medium sweet with rich berry flavour.  The container grown figs were super sweet (over powering), little seed crunch and very chewy skin.
Threw in a few walnuts and Hazelnuts in the plate.  Can’t beat the taste of a fig accompanied by some fresh nuts right off the tree and grandma's fresh baked biscotti.
Comments and ideas welcome.
Enjoy!

Enticing plate!

Hey Joe, that's a beautiful plate!! Good Job!

Hi Pino.
Did you grow everything on the plate? I'm very impressed.
Enjoy.
Vito

Thanks for your kind words everyone!

Hi Raffaele, in ground figs are just ramping up.  As long as it stays warm and sunny there will be lots of figs.  Stop by if you get a chance.

Hi Vito, yes to your question.   I planted the small orchard 20 years ago.  Figs, Nut trees, grapes and other fruits.  Last few years I decided to focus on the figs and scale down the grapes and fruit trees.  Just too much work.

Pino. I talked with another forum member about my in ground fig was producing the same as my potted tree same variety. She thought that the roits in ground have free rain so the tree was in no hurry to produce. The potted tree is limited so it forces the tree to produce. Little different then what you have but the, same condition as far as root space. Also i know if you want a bulb type plant to produce more bulbs. Put it in a pot with limited space it will produce mor bulbs then in ground ones. You have grate looking figs. And grate topic.

That makes sense Richie!  Thanks

Sorry to bother everyone with more Ciccio Nero photos but some one noticed the similarity with Hardy Chicago and asked if they are the same.
I am growing them side by side although but to be fair the Hardy Chicago is 4 years old in ground only this year.  The Ciccio has been in ground for over 20 years.  So this comparison is only to show some difference not to judge which is better.  (IMO cool climate fig growers can't go wrong with either one).

Unquestionably the leaves are almost dead ringers for each other but the fig taste profile and looks are slightly different.

One mystery I have is why many Ciccio Nero figs have really long necks and stems?
I am guessing in the right environment they have the potential to grow much larger?

2 cut open.  taste profile very similar but this Ciccio was sweeter probably because it is a little riper.
