Greeting From Indonesia ,

Dear All  ,

Its only available in US and Europe , does it work well for Figs cutting propagation..?

Hope to hearing the advice from you .

Thanks and Best Regards'

If my memory is correct, someone from either F4F or Garden Web has try similar method. I cannot remember its success.

Tq Paul ,

Since it is for an advertisement , it looks like 100% of the result is excellent for cuttings propagation ( perhaps  , it could be used for figs stem propagation  as well ) . but  I prefer to have information from forum member experience if any.

Something makes me worry , is about using 100% water media ( Hydroponic propagation) :
- Would not the stem become rot instead of being  rooted because the over watering
-  By using Cloner Machines , Would the root  is forming  strong enough to be replanted onto soil media in polybags afterward

Thanks and best regards

Those things are for growing pot inside!
Roots can be grown in water as long as it has the right nutrient and oxygen content. However, the roots that form in water are very different. They will rot once they are moved into a solid media.
Gorgi did something similar with a water bottle and it sure did root his cutting, but I am not sure about its longterm health  for him.

Tq Brent for your valuable information.
On the other word that the water must be having the right nutrition and oxygen formula . ( its seems not as simple as it look like at the advertisement , I thought it is only  distilled water + rooting hormone  , then ,,,abaa,,cadabraa...the rooting grows well with out having mold problem....,,) .

Hopefully , Gorgi could share his experiment after he re-planted  the root cutting into soil media. / potting.

best regards

Yes, I tried some hard-to-root Kalamata Black in water.

Initially there were plenty of water-roots, but everything fizzled after that...

Zaitun, When cutting rots in water, it is really stinky. I played around with rooting in water, using aquarium with an aquarium heater, pumps to move water, aeration & thermostat ---- I would say, it was experimental and I would not do it again especially after discovering spaghnum moss(SM). Roots were brittle and rot contemination, washing cuttings, changing water and certainly more work. I find success rate higher using SM & less work + I don't need to keep monitoring.

Its funny that this thread just came up. 2 days ago I bought a cloning machine on ebay. I'm not really thinking I would root fig cuttings with it as the roots are super fragile but I will try to root other stuff. Rosemary, lavender, maybe some fruit trees like apples or pears. I don't know, I'm sure I'll experiment. It was only $75 and I know I'll get that much enjoyment out of it. I do have some extra BT and celeste cuttings that are expendable maybe I will try to root. I know there was a guy, TMC, who made his own cloning machine. There is a thread on it here or on GW. I'll keep you updated as to when my new toy arrives.

Greeting from Indonesia.
Thank you all for your valuable information about possibility " Cloner Machine" would be able to be used for stem figs propagation.

@Hi John , It would be nice to hear your experiment report of  rooting figs using your new Cloner machine. Since we usually do air layering for figs propagation in Indonesia, ( Success rate is 100% and Young tree could produce fruit   in 3- 4 months)
Propagation stem of  figs  is only  done when we are going to have new variety from overseas. ( but the success rate is very low about 40-50%)..

Best regards

You could try rooting them in a larger hydro machine and then air layer the tops off.

So, Wildforager, how'd the figs do in your cloning machine?
