Close encounter of the bat kind.

I guess this guy is beneficial for the garden and figs but I'd rather they stay in the garden.

Funny,

I do have it in my mind to build some bat-house to attract them bats.

I hear they do eat a lot of the 'nasty' mosquitoes.

Lately, my yard has some of those new 'real nasty-daylight' Asian ones!

However, I definitely do not want any bats 'inside' my home....

lol Tom that was good the oh and ah's along with it !
Glad ya good it out.
As a note but im sure you do know any chimney on house should have a chimney guard as well as that also another entry point for animals and such.
Santa Clause though has it figured out.  ; )

Your kidding me.  We now have an asian imported bat too?  That's the first I heard of it.  Did they bring that in on purpose to eat the asian longhorn beetle, only to find out it doesn't eat them?

tmc,

Sorry for the misinforamtion.

I meant Asian-mosquitoes (e.g., them Tiger & Black ones) and not any good bat.

Oh geez the thought of mosquitoes as big as a bat just ran through my head

Just saw a TV show about the Giant Gambian rats that are invading Florida, also Rock Pythons crawling on the roads, and backyards.

I'll take Manhattan, The Bronx, and Staten Island too......

This was my favorite video yet, action, jokes, a terrified grown man... Kudos for not harming it and keeping your head. They kinda freak me out too, especially when they are acting strange; because of the rabies. I think he probably was dehydrated, but they drink by swooping down onto a pond or stream. Too funny that before one called his friend in for a visit.
I was playing disc golf with my buddy in NC years ago and we found a huge bat laying in the middle of the trail. We were not sure what to do, I thought it was sick and should be "put out of its misery" because it was shivering and I thought it would just fly away if it was healthy. But Pat remembered that some bats have long wings and cannot take off if they are laying on their backs. So we got a long stick and tried to poke it over. It scared the piss out us when it opened up its wings, it had a huge wingspan, hawk size; and it had big teeth too. So don't feel bad about being a little scared by bats, we jumped out of planes on a regular basis but sure did run for our lives when that thing finally took off!

This sounds like a great clip!! For some reason the video won't play :(

I am fairly tech challenged, so if anyone has an idea of how to remedy the situation I will be grateful.  Running Vista and using Firefox.

Thanks!

Hi, Have you watched youtube videos before?  If you haven't you might need to go to adobe.com and find the downloads link and download and install adobe flash player.  I think you have to install that to watch youtube videos.  Here is the link adobe flash.  You could also install and use the Chrome browser which will have flash already installed. Chrome download link

Thanks TMC, and yes I have watched them before - I couldn't tell you the last one.  I also watch the Decorah Eagle webcam, but that hasn't been working for me for a few days - hmmmm  maybe there is a connection.

I check out the link

I'm waiting on the sequel where he wakes up with a bat in his room and thinks he may have been bit. The instructions were

Quote:
for example, you woke up to a bat in your bedroom or you know or you think that you might have been bitten you should capture the bat

Now that I want to see!

I know everyone doesn't have one but pool nets make easy capture devices for a variety of critters.

AND

the long pole gives you a little courage!

Gorgi,

I'm with you I'd love to have a squadron or two living in my yard. I will be erecting some bat houses but I've heard it can take years and maybe never for them to move in.
