Clown Fig / Ficus Aspera

Noticed these 2 fuzzy little purple figs today on a Clown fig, Ficus Aspera. Maybe not quite dime diameter.

That's pretty cool. Just musing: what qualities would it impart  if crossed with F carica?

I'm not familiar with Ficus Aspera, are the fruit edible or ornamental?

I don't know much about Ficus Aspera. Would like to know how it would cross with Ficus Carica. Animals in the wild eat a lot of different ficus species, I would guess including Aspera. Guess it would need a special wasp or something else to ripen. Also, my understanding is that some types of non-carica ficus figs are happily consumed by people in other countries where such figs ripen. The Ficus Pumila-Carica cross below has not borne fruit for me yet. I've seen photos of such bushes in California that bear a lot of small purple fruit, maybe wasp pollinated that might be edible. Not remotely sure however and would like to know.

Tony,
It's a beauty, very decorative indeed... let us know how it tastes :)

P.S.
Can I sign up for few cuttings when the time comes?

I neglected this Aspera/Clown fig this summer, shoved it behind other pots so it did not grow much. Therefore, I don't know if I will take cuttings this year. If I do, probably 2 or 3 at most I would think, and I would put them on Ebay. The fruit is so visually striking that next year I will take care of it, fertilize it, and probably drill extra holes in pot for the roots to reach out into the ground.

I did not care for it much this year because I do not think the fruit will ripen here, lacking pollination. I don't know for certain but that's my guess. However, unlike most all unripe ficus carica fruit, this clown fruit surprised me in being always colorful and interesting no matter how small, how unripe, and consequently has proved to me that it is worth well attending to.

pls, show us later how big they get and hopefully cut in half pic too... such a lovely specimen.

I was wondering about cuttins for sale too.

I had 2 of these before, it's too sensitive to cold even temps in the 40's killed it in my greenhouse. I might give it another try.
