Coffee Grounds

Curious, does anyone use coffee grounds or mix with water for a tea to water your fig plants.
I remember as a child grandma used to sprinkle the grounds and broken egg shells around the garden and her fruit trees .

I have applied coffee grinds to my potted figs with no ill effect that I can see. In my opinion only it seems like they like the jolt of caffeine as much as we do. I also put coffee grinds in my compost container along with egg shells the egg shells take a long time to break down and many folks put them in an old blender first to crush so they break down faster. I think egg shells provide calcium maybe DR TAPALA can clarify.

Are coffee ground safe enough for newly planted cuttings. I was hoping that the caffeine helps my cuttings wake up. Its been about 3 weeks now since they roots with no sign of activity except for their roots growth.

Make sure that because of caffeine you would not have hard time to put them in dormancy/hibernation when fall comes around.

i plane to keep this inside for at least 6 months so the cold isn't a factor for me. are caffeine lvs safe for newly rooted cuttings

Too much coffee grounds will drop the soil Ph. A great source of Nitrogen. I guess that is why they add the egg shells.

I have seen both coffee and egg shells use but not on figs, new to figs.  I know my mother used coffee to darken flowers on some of her plants, hydrangea aka snowball plant.

Here is a link from starbucks.

Funny bout the snowball... My great uncle used to add lime because he liked the flowers to be a lighter pink... As for the coffee grounds... I make a full pot every morning and add the grounds to the compost... I can't imagine how many pounds of coffee are actually in that bin! And how much $ I saved not going to starbucks every morning... I'm sure the composting changes the grounds chemically in one way or another, plus i add lime to my finished compost, that said I can't help but think that their acidity would have to be balanced out one way or the other for them to have any really positive effect on your figs...

I have never used Coffee grounds on Figs but have used it on my Strawberry guavas wich gave them a bit of a boost. I remember my great Grandfather using eggshells around the plants to kill slugs atleast that what he used to say.
