Cold hardy fig rootstock for zone 5a

Hello Members, I am looking for any articles or Recommendations for cold hardy fig rootstock for at least zone 5a. Maybe there are more variables to consider than I realize. Thank you for any information or recommendations on this subject, Mike

Hi.  Just wondering what you're planning on using the root stock for?  I've been playing around with grafting using Hardy Chicago because the plant grows back from the ground after freezing and I have extra potted plants, but the plan is to keep them potted and protected through the winter because even with "cold hardy" roots if the grafted plants freeze and die only the root stock will be left.  This is me presuming that you're looking for root stock for grafting, though.

Yes, Being narrow minded,I was considering doing some grafting, but didn't consider no matter what the rootstock is,the grafts need to survive the same conditions. Thank you

I think what the question should be is, what conditions can you replicate for your grafts to survive and can you bring your rootstock and grafts to dormancy to keep them from dying! Right?

Ficus afghanistanica is hardier than F. carica. Maybe you can try this as rootstock? But like Cheryl said, the graft has to survive the same temperatures as the rootstock. It will benefit from the cold hardiness of the rootstock, but you will still have to protect it.
