Cold Out This Morning (37 Brrr )

Woke up and it was cold taking these pictures but had to let the dogs out anyways. You can see the morning dew wanting to turn to frost as i write this its basically gone. I had brought the one large potted unknown in garage last evening and it will be about 65 today so i'll put it out soon for sun as it still had lots of figs and some are almost ripe but doubt much taste , heck i'll see soon enough. This coming week the highs will be in upper 60s mother nature is flexing its muscles now back and forth with these up and down temps.

I said this on the FF, so I'm going to say it on this one also!

Martin,
I see right now, what you really need is some East TX.
Gophers to help you maintain that beautiful yard!
A mound here & a mound there would greatly enhance that Golf Course looking yard!
I could trap you a Male & Female pair, they have a lot in common with rabbits if ya get the drift. I already have your address so we know where to send them!
Do I need to set my traps for that kindly offer?
Your East TX Friend ;)
Cecil

Martin,

Beautiful trees and yard. Keep at it with the tree shuffling - your results will either save us all the hassle of trying it next year or we'll all have to get ourselves one of those nice shiny hand trucks. We were at 40 this morning also.

Cecil - that's not nice! But if Martin wants some grub-diggin' skunks I can send those too :o)

:)~  Right back at ya Martin!

Oh gosh i have to keep an both eyes open now. Cecil my 3 dogs give enough to clean if you know what i mean, as for the grass its nice and green after all that rain we had and the cool weather afterwards its stayed green now but have to keep cutting it,
Steve send them to Cecil i hear gophers enjoy them as a snack.

We were 97 at the beginning of the week, and 72 and raining today. Just one more wild weather swing this year (about the 6th such cycle). Would have loved to have had a little 37 earlier this week. ;-))

Last weekend I was invited over to a friends house to help with an "woodchuck problem".It had to be done quietly because though his yard was surrounded by trees for privacy, he had lots of neighbors that take objection to the discharging firearms within city limits. Only took about 2 hours of sitting on his back porch w/ my compound bow to harvest 3 of them. They look so nice when they are run through and stuck to the ground w/ an arrow. Almost harmless... almost.

Sandsquid, I wish you and your compound bow lived close to take care of my deer problem.  The deer leave my fig trees alone, but eat my hostas and daylilies down to the ground.  My neighbor feeds the deer. He says they come from my place and graze for a bit than go to his deer feeder.

My EXPENSIVE home heat did come up last 2-3 day's mornings ... way past TIME
to DRILL, drill & drill; and drill again and again........
(screw them bird/butterfly/mouse/(for that matter)figs/etc.!)
We DO have the resources.
... so as to us be energy  independent from them OTHER sources that in spite of us
sending them 'way too muchoo' dollars',  they still hate us (USA folks) and USE
our (them) belle green dollars against  us..

George go ahead and vent its good to let it out, and also i totally totally agree!!!
Them oil companies made more profits then ever, its all a scam or game in my view cause when they do one day change to something other than gasoline if some here on forum live to see that day them same companies will be selling us the other new stuff and making more profits i stongly believe, Someone somewhere is holding new tech back and i bet its those companies that run the show.
I recently heard of a i think frenchman who actually ran a engine on compressed air all by itself and it worked excellent last year, he somehow figured out how to store the compressed air in tanks under vehicle to release into cylinders to push everything and make it work. Never heard anything more about this after his test drive.
You have me venting now.
Oh and keeping with fig forum policy my fig tree's are slowly succombing to the cold now darn it.
Best Health
Martin

Martin,
You are right about me being mad (and venting!).
I strongly  think that our (short term ) energy problem relies on drilling (for more oil).
Next is nuclear (clean) energy (by all means!).
We have the technology  & 'knowhow' to SAFELY master both..
Next may come the potential (experimental) alcohol (bio-fuel) , solar, wind,
(hydogen) fuel-cell, and what else may come of  the American people's  ingenuity. ...

I'm with you guys!

Vern,

This may sound odd, but it works pretty well...
2 tablespoons hot pepper sauce
1 tablespoon liquid dish soap
1 teaspoon garlic powder or liquid garlic juice
1 gallon of water.

Spray weekly and/or after it rains

I use Deer-Off on my flowers and shrubs. Works great at detering the deer unless they are desperate (in which case they may venture a nibble but then give up). Its made with cayene, garlic and putrified eggs. Smells lousy when first applied but fades when it dries. Keeps the groundhogs awat also.

Aye! Raw eggs mixed in a blender with equal parts skim milk and water, plus a few tablespoons of liquid dish soap, also works.  Let it sit for a few days and get really funky.

Unfortunately, it smells so bad I an dry-heaving and gagging while applying it.

The smell is supposed to be the initial deterrent for the deer (yup it stinks) but for those who try to eat the plants anyway, the hot pepper and garlic is supposed to teach them a lesson.
