Colosanti Dark is full of surprises

Digging out my potted plants that had rooted into the ground today. It was one that i had covered with frost cloth on the colder nights.
As I carried the one C Dark over to the side door, I was looking at it thinking which branches will be pruned for cuttings to give the tree a nice shape. I want a few cuttings to give away and to start a couple new plants for myself from this tree as the tree itself will be given to an older gentleman I met earlier this fall. Well  the temps have been low, nights sometimes down into the mid thirties,  a couple of nights we had frost, days usually no more than 60, cloudy and lots of rain.
And there it was. WTF!!. Sorry no pics, it was into my mouth in a blink.

I know that feeling.  That's why my last fig photo had bite marks in it    :)

I have some sitting on the tree still and I have bunch with the purple blush I am convinced that will go soft from me checking so often, I think I will cover tonight in case I could still get some.

Grant - I just had one off my colisanti green today!

These figs seem to work in southern Ontario.

If you ever have a spare cutting, I'd love to try the dark one.  I've got tons of green cuttings if anyone wants.

Yes Grant, it is natural, having a sweet fig like that at this time of the year will make you say "What the Fig  (WTF!!)".
I was digging my figs planted like a hedge had some almost dried Neggrone and Vista figs and they were sweet like candies. Now I am glad I did not see them on time and neither did the squirrels.

Congrats on finding the fig. Glad it was good.

Just yesterday I found an unexpected fig too. Not that much of a surprise in our climate. Except the fig I found had, to say the least, insipid taste. It was a Norman's Yellow I had purchased with several other varieties on ebay. Some figs are not worth growing.

I agree, those dried ones are the best, and are rare to find. had a couple off my celeste and they were just a bit juicier than fruit leather, and sugary enough to stick to my teeth.

What made me most happy about finding and tasting this C. Dark was discovering that it will ripen and taste reasonable even in the cool wet weather normal in our sept/oct.
That means I can, for this variety, set back the date after which I start removing all newly forming figs, and have a longer season.
