Hi Everyone! 
I'am a new fig lover from SoCal and just started my fig collection. Still learning about varieties and need some help in comparing Yellow Long, Yellow Long Neck and White Marseille figs to understand which one I need to be looking for and how different they are.

It was hard to compare just by the pictures, but from one of YouTube videos I realized that a Yellow Long Neck figs are really huge and I liked it :) The pictures of White Marseille from internet was quite different and it was confusing. Some of them looked more elongated and brighter in color, other are shorter and pale...really not sure what size are they and shape...

I would appreciate any thoughts, pictures and descriptions of taste, color, size, productivity......

Yellow Long and Yellow Long Neck are the same fig.

I don't have Yellow Long Neck but I have a first year fig that forum members have helped me identify it as White Marseilles. White Marseilles is a green fig the size of a quarter that ripens into yellowish green color. It tastes like cucumbers and has medium productivity. Not my favorite among my very small collection.

Wow, that video really sold me - I have to get a Yellow Long Neck cutting.  Can anyone please provide me a contact for this super fig variety?

Tad, you haven't even registered yet so you can't ask any questions until August of 2017.  White Marseilles is a good, mild flavored fig.  If it tasted like cucumber it either wasn't ripe, was taken off of a young tree or ripened in temperatures under about 75-8 or it had some other problem.  Was it long and green?  :)

I want to correct my original statement. There may be two versions: Long Yellow & Yellow Long Neck. I've got the TC version and am getting Long Yellow from a good source. Time will tell.

my yellow long neck ranks dead last of all my figs. is productive and yields larger figs, but never been impressed with the taste. but this video has me rethinking and maybe giving it another chance

Just my two cents, I don't know if white Marseilles or long-neck is the same fig,
I have the long yellow, it's in the top five figs I grow, it's a beautiful looking fig tree, it is one of my earliest fig to ripen and I live in upstate NY zone 4,just for that reason it's a keeper for me! It's the biggest fig I grow and it's delicious and productive,( imo)I don't think anybody would be disappointed in that fig.

Does anyone here have cuttings of the Yellow long neck or other Yellow long fig that produces a comparable sized fruit?

YLN was available for tasting at Harvey's gathering.  It's a sweet fig but not very complex in flavor.  I don't recall anyone being particularly in love with it.  It is huge, though.

Vito, I am so glad to read that you grow figs in zone 4. I was beginning to think that I was the only one crazy enough to try to grow figs in zone 4. I assume you grow everything in pots or do you have some planted in-ground?

These Yellow Long or Yellow Long Neck varieties are quite attractive and now that you mention that the Yellow Long is one of your earliest to ripen, I shall have to look for that variety. Besides one needs to eat only one of those figs for three of the small ones.

My white Marseilles is definitely bigger than a quarter.  The mother tree at Petals from the Past has large figs that are sweet and mild.  You might call it "refreshing" as opposed to thick and jammy.

No, they are not the same. White Marseilles is one large sweet fig, green on the outside, white on the inside. WM is also hardy. Yellow long neck is not.

Hi Nicole. Where do you live? I'm in Inglewood. The Ca Rare Fruit Growers meeting in Feb. in W. La Has Cuttings Of Many Fig Varieties Grown locally. Let me know if you are interested and I will give you more info.

I wanted to thank everyone for extra  information and details. Decided to skip on WM, and focus on rooting my "Yellow Long" cutting that I just got from a friend. I still would like to find a "Yellow Long Neck" variety to grow next to YL  to compare. If anyone know a good source please let me know.

The Yellow Long Neck/Long Yellow controversy has interested me for some time now.  It's a debate that goes back a few years.  Since my family is a fan of large light colored figs, I've followed and taken notes since discovering both varieties.  I've collected both varieties from their source and they are still young.  I've observed mature trees and leaves of both.  Have seen and held mature fruit from Long Yellow and seen pictures of mature fruit from Yellow Long Neck.  Have not tasted either.  My opinion is they are different varieties.  This is based on conversations with original sources and my own observations.  Sorry but I don't have dates for any of the information below.  Will dig a little deeper when my trees mature a little more.

Both varieties originate from different sources:

• Yellow Long Neck was introduced by the late George Emerich of Fallbrook, CA, who was heavily involved with the CRFG.  The variety was developed as part of the UC Riverside fig breeding program and George collected it just before the program ended.  
• Long Yellow was collected from the San Diego Botanical Gardens, formerly Quail Botanical Gardens.  No further information is available.

Thanks, it was really informative and interesting to know. I was trying to compare the fruits of YL and YLN by many different pictures, and I have to agree with you that it looks different. Never had a chance to look at the leafs though..
