Comparison of Piccola Negretta and Nero 600

Pictures below, Hopefully second times a charm.

I know a few are growing one or the other so I would like to start a discussion about how these grow for you in your climate.  Please if your growing Valle Negra upload some pictures as well.

Yes, I am aware Piccola Negretta (aka unknown Negretta) is NOT the Negretta fig.

I have been growing Piccola Negretta (PN for here on) for 2 complete seasons, and side by side with Nero 600 and another PN for one season.  Both are excellent figs in my hot yard.

First these two are very similar, growth and size, and fruits (which were late due to being first year trees) but I have reasons for thinking they are different.  This by no means a scientific study, just my observations, what's yours?

Here my PN has slightly more than average number of more serrated leaves, with more "bumps" on fingers.

Nero 600 leaves, on average, have smoother leaves, more like a RdB, and more "thumbs" (leaflets that point back toward stem like horns) than PN.

Yes, there is overlap, meaning I do see leaf types that seem nearly identical, but I'm talking about predominate leaf shape.

First PN pics through out this season and a few from last:

My N600 is in its second leaf and no fruit yet. Your PN looks great! I lost mine while they were cuttings.

Thanks Sas, it's the goat poop.  Nero 600 gave a few, but late, now some hanging, teasing me.

I skipped application of "compost" ( more or less, it comes right from the barn)  on some trees this year and , even in though they are in better sun, they didn't do as well as those given the barn waste.

Don,

I've moved to this post.  The below images are all taken in the Vicenza, Italy area.  Im beginning to think these might be close to Valle Negra.  Notice the last photo- of  a fig growing from a sewer grate!

My question is, what's the difference between Valle Negra and Nero 600? I see you have both and they look similar.  I am leaning towards thinking these are Valle Negra types from the following post:

"Ciao, Just today I correspond with Sergio, in Liguria to dig more information of his tree he introduced to a few of us in the U.S. (Valle Negra) I found the information very interesting. For the most part he aquired this fig from a mountains above the town of Breno, which is in the Valle Camonica, The Romans named this valley for the original Italic tribe (inhabitants) of this valley, the valley is nicknamed by locals of Valle Negra because in the winter the mountains shadow the valley and it is dark, so why valle negra name, this is all within the province of Brescia, Lombardia (Lombardy)."

Of course, i don't have fig photos, so i am only speculating until i can see the fruit.

Johnny,

My geography isn't that good so I mapped Vincenza.  Looks like the Northeastern part of Italy, foot of the Alps(?) Your pictures are great!  I love seeing those trees thriving while what looks like growing out of a wall.

I'm not really sure the difference either so I'm hoping for more info as well.  I didn't get to taste any properly ripened Nero 600, but the PN is delicious, I'm starting to lean more to the small rich tasting figs for sure.

I hope you got cuttings of that one growing in the grate, definition for lust for life.

Don,

When i get some figs down to bastop, maybe we can compare.  I  hope to have moved some down by april.
