What range of temperatures do you have where you live in Indonesia. Similar to Philippines? Are you at a high elevation? I thought Indonesia was too tropical for figs.

Indonesia is southern of Philippines.

Northern of Philippines can get a tad cooler than Indonesia. I was born and grown in Jakarta (capital). I don't remember the temperature ever go down any lower than 27-28 Celsius (80-82 F). In some mountains or higher elevation areas the temperature could get down to 16-18 Celsius (61-64 F). There are a few exceptions like Mount Bromo in Java where night temperature could go down to 5 Celsius (41 F). Indonesia is right on the equator line. So, it's very tropical.

Where do you grow the fig? in tropical conditions or elevation?

Do your figs ever go dormant? How many crops do you have. I've read in warm climates, you can get 3 crops.

In Indonesia, there is not dormant periode like as other countries which had winter---
Just 2 seassons, rainy and summer-- :)

Onesy - so the figs there never lose their leaves and go dormant? do you get 2 or 3 crops a year? I am interested because some people on this forum state that figs need dormancy to set fruit. I live in an apartment and have good sun exposure and I started grow figs in pots. So according to your experience I could keep one in a bright winter here in the winter and keep watering and it will grow and keep fruiting?

I do the same with hot habanero chili plants that here are treated as annuals.

Onesy, what fig varieties are grown in your country that tolerate the climate and the lack of a rest period?

Here is my position:
http://wikimapia.org/#lat=-7.8910704&lon=112.5511112&z=19&l=0&m=b

Elevation about 600 above see level.

In Indonesia, fig can produce fruit all the time.
Most of my figs do not have dormancy period, all the time / season they growing well and set fruit.

To: FMD ==> Indonesia is not too tropical for fig.

To Stefpix: Yes,, as long as I grown figs, they are never go dormant--:)
To Bonsaihunk: I think every varieties can grow well over here,,but Smyrna type never produce fig because we don't have figswasp to polinate them :)

Onesy,
thanks. That observation contradicts what I have read on forums that Ficus carica may decline or not set fruit without winter dormancy or some cool weeks.

I have a small Chicago Hardy in a pot whose fruits are ripening and it looks like it is still growing new branches now that we are entering fall. I may overwinter it indoors.

Onesy have you tried to graft a branch of common Fig onto some local tropical banyan Ficus you have there?

No I did not :)
Just graft common type onto common,or common onto san pedro type :)
There are some friends in indonesia who did what you said, they tried to graft common type onto ficus auriculata, and others wild ficus :)
One of them is Handarius who posted this thread,,:)
You can asked him for more details :)
There is other friend who had succes for fig grafting , you can find him on his blog: Buah-ara.blogspot.com

Baguio City, Philippines is 5000 feet above sea level and has pine trees. I would imagine figs can be grown there. Anyone from the Philippines on this board?.
