I was reading something about a breba corp in the northeast. Question is if I am just starting to see figs start now on my DK and Olympian will they rippen before the frost? I am a newbie and caught the fig addiction. Live in Tacoma WA

Breba crop is on last years growth, for the DK its the only crop you will get as it needs the fig wasp for main crop. So on the DK, if the figs are on last years growth you might get a taste.

Sorry I don't know how long you can harvest out there.  I heard rule of thumb for ripening is 80 days from fig appearance.

Main crop desert king you will not get, they will fall off with no wasp, but it will load up on them, I am not familiar with olympian but from small rice size embryos you can expect anywhere from 70-100 days to ripen, if it is a young tree I would not leave too many on as it would over load the tree and the fewer you have on the more chance the ones you leave will ripen a bit quicker (emphasis on a bit) and better size and quality in my opinion.

More confused now. I thought the DK was a comon fig and did not need the wasp. That's why I got it living in Washington. The figs are on this years new growth, the part of the tree.

In the PNW most people grow figs for their breba crop, which ripens, in their short season, about the same time a main crops figs do in longer, warmer places. Because the ripen ij late August they do well because they rip-en in the hottest part of the year.

DK is a San Pedro type, setting breba figs like a common fig, and requiring caprification of the main crop, like a Smyrna type. See FAQ.
