Confused with Bordeaux varieties

Please,
Can  anybody tell if Rouge de Bordeaux and Ronde de Bordeaux are two distinct varieties or the same variety? If different varieties, then what is the difference in their taste and growth habit. Thanks

Hi Boris,
in concern with
Rouge de Bordeaux - Syn of Pastiliere
Ronde de Bordeaux
Pastiliere

Yes Rouge and Ronde are 2 different plants.
I have both Rouge and Ronde .

I have not seen any pictures of Rogue ripe fruit nor members comments of it on forum, Jon Verdick the moderator has one.
If member grows it i would enjoy seeing the figs and there comments.

Rouge is Syn of Pastiliere and i also have Pastiliere and will compare the 2 when time comes.

Thanks, Martin!  Well said.

I have Ronde De Bordeaux trees from two different sources and Pastillier (AKA Rouge De Bordeaux) from two different sources.  Ronde and Rouge are completely different figs.

My in ground Pastillier which came from UCD has dropped its figs every year. I have yet to taste that fig and am not yet ready to give up on it. IMO, it will eventually fruit for me.  I have eaten a few Ronde De Bordeaux figs from one of my trees and know that it has the potential to be a great tasting fig when my tree matures.

Dan :My Pastiliere also dropped fruits and I discarded it.
Now That I hear it did the same in your garden,I have more suspicion,it needs pollination.
Cauducous figs keep a small percentage of fruit but drop most of them and it is frustrating to the Grower.

I want to add to the confusion please.

I have the Pastilliere and my understanding it is of China or Japan origin.
I hear the Rouge De Bordeaux is French origin.

How are they or how did they become the same?

Thank you

Thanks to everybody for their input on my question. I hope to hear in the future a clear verdict on Rouge de Bordeaux. I think that any fig tree in normal conditions should be able to fruit not later than  on its 3d or 4th year.

Rafed, that info comes from Pierre Baud's website. He is a fig authority.

See......  http://www.fig-baud.com/cataloguefiguiers/catpastiliere.html

Herman2, Baud states that it is perfectly normal for Pastilere to drop many of its Breba figs (the French language translator calls breba figs....."Fig Flowers"). Also, he recommends growing Pastillere (AKA Rouge De Bordeaux) in ALL REGIONS of France. Do you know if they have the fig wasp in ALL regions of France?? My guess is they do not. Those are the reasons why I will continue to grow Pastillere for a few more years. I am hoping for the best.

Alan, I'm thinking the one from UCD has been in the ground at least four seasons. This year it is coming back up from the roots as it was top killed this past winter. It is putting on figs right now and I will pluck them all off. I do not want to risk another winter die back.

I also plucked off about 30 figs so far from my Col De Dame Blanc. I almost lost my tree this past winter too after leaving too may figs on the tree for it to ripen last year. I absolutey love the taste of Col De Dame and it was hard for me to remove those figs. But, sometimes you have to do what is best for the tree. One day I wll be rewarded with lots of those great tasting figs.

I also discarded my Pastiliere that I purchased from Baud, two years straight it dropped all of its figs plant was in its 3rd season. I did however keep Jon's UNK. Pastiliere I have a good feeling about this one.
