Constantine Fig

Okay, I have been poking around on this variety since it has been listed on eBay. I saw only one photo on google. Looks like a celeste. Says it is "rare". I have my doubts but for some odd reason I am interested. Perhaps because it is an unknown to me? I want to know a little more info about this variety.

Below is part1 and part2 of the message sent to me about the variety. The third is the rare variety "Constantine". The other photo is from google I took on my iPhone.

Thanks

I saw the listing as well and that you had asked questions about it and read the links (one link didn't work but I found the info anyways somehow).  It seems different than Celeste, I thought, but then nothing that special to make me really want to have it.  A lot of times I'm inclined to try to get something just because it's rare but then later realize that the reason it's rare is because it wasn't that special.

Lol- well put. Perhaps someone will shed some light.

Suzi seemed familiar with it when she wrote at http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1273906060&postcount=6
Or maybe she was just referring to it because it was an example Ray had used in his fig ID discussion.  A cached copy of the page she linked to can be found at http://web.archive.org/web/20101128140522/http://raysfiginfo.com/id-figs.html

The blog referred to by the eBay seller has more photos

Leaves suggest that it is a Celeste. Comments on the auction listing say "similar to Celeste".

This is why you need to check Encanto Farm's Varieties site to see all the synonyms for what you think is amazing and unusual, only to find it is a common fig.

Jennifer, it's odd that your question and the seller's.  I saw that he had responded as your screenshot above shows, saying it definitely was not Celeste.  His description says it's bigger.  But in Jim Long's blog he shows Constantine fruits to be small. Not worth chasing, IMO.

Not Celeste my butt!  If that's not Celeste I'll go watch Keanu Reeves next 10 movies in the Theater- midnight showings.

Gotcha- declining the offer as we speak. thank you guys.

Dominick,

I'll have to remember that line. "Keanu Reeves next 10 movies in the theater.. midnight showing". LOL

Rare....last week i was in Hollywood and Hallandale,FL,and they had "Constantine" fig on every Walmart store. It is a yellow Celeste,or Celestial if you want.

Oh jeeze Marius!  Rare?  I'm out!
