Constantine Fig at Lowes?

I searched for fig trees at four Lowes stores in So Fla and found lots of Brown Turkey, Ischia and Magnolia.  One store had a lonely Constantine, and I brought it home.  There is hardly any info available on this variety.  One source said it produced small figs.  Is it a good selection for So Fla?  I have limited space and want cultivars that are prolific and produce large, tasty figs.

Welcome Figgie - hopefull someone will know . Sorry , I do not .
Did you do a search here for Constantine or on Jon's Encanto Farms Nursery ?

Constantine appears to be an old variety, I found it in a book printed in the early 1900s.  There is another variety, named De Constantine, listed in that same book.  There's very little else on either one.

There were no replies on this forum from anyone who was familiar with the Constantine variety.  I posted in the Figs Forum on Garden Web, with no replies there, either.   I returned this fig to Lowes and will buy a Celeste or Excel fig, which are claimed to do well in So Fla.  The Constantine fig remains a mystery...

Just because you don't know the name doesn't mean you shouldn't keep it. Why not have all three? That fig could have been great or turned out to be another fig that you may have wanted. Many members on here end up naming new figs based on where they found it. You could have named it Lowes-Constantine01 for example.

Just my two cents. I would have keep it.

I agree with americanfigboy, you should have given it a chance...  you can always get a hold of those more common varieties whenever, and figs don't take long to produce.... oh well..

I would go back and pick one up. You could have had something special.
These big box store get their plants from independent suppliers. Just so happens this supplier could be one of the few to have this fig.

Not ruling out there could be some floating around in someone's private collection. We just don't know this yet.

But then again, it could turn out to be something very common. Like a BT or Celeste or anything.

Gotta take chances sometimes.

Good luck

Wish my Lowes had some different kinds of fig.  I checked today and they had about 15 Mission Figs.  I already have one of those.  Oh well, maybe I can shop around at some other Lowes nearby.

fig is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will find... i think mr. gump's mother said something like that... or was it you never ask what kind of meat at some of the local dives.

Looks like I'm talking a trip to lowes. Home Depot didn't have anything.
