construction Riga XL Greenhouse

beginning construction of Riga XL Greenhouse.  Art is doing similar but more elaborate project. i am doing an aluminum foundation frame set in a trench. i will the pour some concrete around the foundation frame when finished.  This is a lot of work with sometimes confusing instructions, but should be worth the effort.  I plan for using this for the more gourmet or late season figs, as well as other tropical fruits.  This is about 15 X 20 X 10 ft.

Nice job Bill, that's going to be fantastic!

Bill,
Looks like things are moving along just fine. I'm at a stand still, they sent me some wrong parts. I'm waiting on them. Instead of sending me 10 curved center profiles, they sent me 6 and sent me 8 corner profiles. If I get them this week I will be done this weekend. I have water installed and conduit installed with a pull string for my electric.
I'm itching to get a few trees in before it gets cold.

Very nice!!!

Art,
They would save themselves some money if they get it right the first time.  They shorted me a side floor profile, and i had to wait while they shipped me another.  Thwe instructions on how to do this with the foundation frame do not seem very clear to me.

Bill,
I agree! The instructions for this thing almost drove me crazy.
I just keep telling myself it will be well worth it when it's all done.

I'm so jealous! That's the one I wanted but it's too big for my yard. I ended up with RigaV and I pack it real tight in the winter.

If you have problems with the installation call customer service as they are excellent. The more people you have to hold panels the easier the installation. Attaching the final wall is a Pita. I completed the V in one weekend but spent the next few weekends adding stuff. Plumbing, electricity, and fans a must!

Here are some pics I made during installation, last year, and this spring. http://photobucket.com/albums/s385/7deuceoff/greenhouse

Best money I ever spent.

Jason, love your final result. Any tips on getting that last wall?

Get a few helpers to hold everything in place. With too few people you get it in and then it pops back out. Give the guys a call too. They are extremely helpful. I cut some of the rubber wrong and they sent me some more free and also gave me some discounts on the hooks and other accessories.

I saw you mention concrete. Make sure you set it up to drain properly. I originally had an all rock floor but I didn't like the crunchiness and moving pots was a pain. I installed wall blocks as the floor vs pavers for a heat sink. I left some stone on the sides for drainage. Works great for me.

Take more pics! I love looking at different set ups.

The only negative with the greenhouse is I grow a lot more stuff now. You'll start looking at citrus plus exotic fruits.

WOW
WHAT A DREAM HOUSE
COOP

Looks like you're going to have a nice oasis from the winter months there.

Your going to really enjoy it. I built myself a hoop house a year ago and was the best gardening investment I've made in all the years of playing in the dirt. One issue that I have come across is a few of the figs trees are now growing in the same shape as the arch of the tunnel as they as so tall. Maybe I just got lucky with a few happy fig trees that are in the right environment, but it certainly wasn't planned for. My tunnel is 10ft tall in the center, and the trees are trying to break out with limbs pushing on the plastic. Invest on some fans to get some air moving in there, that will eliminate some bug and mold problems. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

finished the project in time for cold weather.  used concrete paver floor with sand in between. it is well insulated and seems warm in the am.  will the figs go dormant with minimum temps about 40? other plants in there include mango, papaya, pineapple, pitanga, mangosteen, various citrus

Great greenhouse Bill!

I was thinking to purchase one Riga III. Do you know any dealers in NJ? Or any online suggestion?

Thanks,

Bill, Great job on the floor!

Wow, my figs should be so pampered. Mine still live with a dirt floor.

Bill the greenhouse looks excellent. Nice floor too. Your trees will love it in their own piece of paradise.

Looks great, Bill!

Nice looking greenhouse Bill...congrats, and good luck.
