Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and just started some cuttings last month using bag method.  They were doing great on top of my fridge with the lid on the container for a while.  Things were starting to look up:

                 

But last weekend, I thought to put them outside for some morning sun.  Unfortunately weather spiked up in San Diego and the temperature in the tub went up to 128F cooking all my cuttings :(

I took them in and misted them to cool them down.  But now the leaves are all wilted, dried, and falling off.  I'm starting to also see some mold developing on some of the tips of the twigs. I took a look at bottom, and lots of them have started showing good roots.

       


What should I do next?  Should I repot and hope for the best? Or leave them in the box longer to wait for new leaves?  There aren't enough new nodes on most of these cuttings.  Should I give up on these and just start a new set of cuttings?

First off if the temp went to 128 Celsius, they are done for. I don't think there is any way the temp shot up to 270 F or so though... If there are good roots and no leaves, then plant them out, let the plant do its thing. I think you just toasted your leaves and the cutting is still viable. Also reduce the humidity to prevent mold, at this point there are enough roots to supply plenty of water, you don't need the extreme humidity.

Then you are fine, plant them out as normal. For the first few weeks though just water the absolute minimum to keep the roots moist. You don't want to encourage mold growth. 

Hang in there buddy.  I was in same situation before.  If the new leaves get out off the propagation box (out of good humidity) to sun light - the leaves droop.  My suggestion -  leave the cutting somewhere in bright sunlight and keep those on the dry side for 2-3 weeks.  It will recover.

If the leaves and stems above the soil line are toasted the nodes below the surface may push new stems. Hang tight.

So when I pulled them out to pot, the roots look good on a few of the cuttings.  And Adelmanto was right, one of the cuttings was pushing up a shoot from below the surface.  So will cross my fingers and hang in there!

Update:  

Out of all the cuttings, only 3 had good root development.  2 panache, and 1 celeste.  I transplanted these three into pots.  The Panache cutting (bag with the huge root mass in original post) did recover and send up a new shoot from below:

 

The other two look like they are out of steam and looking like dried twigs. 

Started rooting a new batch in coco coir 2 weeks ago.  One of them looks promising, and I think the others will take more time.  Can't wait to transfer them to cup.  I didn't expect this would be such a fun hobby :)
