Cotio Verdeal

A very prolific Common type with great attributes.
A heavy fig with  sweety dense insides 'painted'  with marked colors and a complex fruity flavor.
A delicious fruit.

That looks amazing.

Francisco,

Thanks to our japanese friend i was able to give this one another chance. I have 2 growing strong (one potted, the other grafted). Maybe next year i can taste them.

By the way, a few years ago you posted that this variety was still maturing figs trough November. How well does it resist the rain? I usually have lots of rain over here, starting as early as September.

I was reading your post of 2013 on Cotio-Verdeal and you mention that it maintains a soft skin, unlike Couro Duro for instance. Does this make it's more susceptible to the rain?

Wow, what contrast between the rich green exterior and the beautiful interior pulp! Amazing!

These photos looks so delicious!
Hope to see something similar in my garden.

2 of varieties from sunny Portugal (LP, Rogil) feel good inground here up north Ukraine, wood started to hardening after cuttings rooting this spring.

Wow mouth watering perfectly ripe figs!
I have a Cotia fig with some figlets this year.  Not sure if this is the same as yours.
Even so I doubt those amazing colours will be developed here in S. Ontario especially with the rainy season so far.

Thank you all for your nice words for this C/Verdeal

@Jaime .- On the questions about how much rain affects this fruit.. Aim afraid not to have the proper answer..
Of course it doesn't take excessive humidity very well.. but as our fall is generally warm and dry, seldom we have fruit losses due to rains. On old times, Nature had it well planned...... first rains would show up 3rd week of Sept..to help and have a more or less moistened soil to ease tillage and preparation for the cereal planting.. At that time there were still plenty of fruit on the trees and rain would certainly damage but the losses were minimal... as all those fruit were happily taken by cattle...pigs.. poultry etc.. or even to distillers... but those were the days!

@ tsparozi .- Agree with your comment on the contrasting colors.

@ serge .-  Nice to hear that those cuttings have rooted fine.. Hope to hear further news next season

@ pino .- There are a number of strains of Cotia.. may be you have this one (?) .. A lot depends on the source.
