Couple Memories From Last Season 2011

Hi Martin, I'm new to the forum and happened across this thread about your friend Butch.  I can only imagine how difficult his loss has been for you.  I hope that the pain that I heard in your words is easing with time.  Your post and the responses to it have convinced me that this forum is the right fig community for me.  God bless.  -Mimi

Ahhh . .I know your pain . . I'm sure he was a beloved part of your family.
In time you'll find space for another . . . but no new dog will ever compare
to that pooch.

I have a replacement dog for my last one . . . it's taken 10 years for me
to accept him like my other dog Rags. And not even then . . though I love
my dog dearly, will he ever measure up . . but he tries

Nothin better than the 'ol pooch
Hope you're doing ok

Sorry about Butch.  I know when it's time for mine to go I'll be heart broken.  You can read about mine here.  I haven't been able to update it but there are still lots of stories.   It's best to start at the beginning.

Ciao Martin, so sorry about your Butch. It is a devistate thing to loose a precious Poochie family member. I sympathize with you. Been out of country since last fall, family emergency overseas, taken care of now back just recently, neice took a care of my figs trees, they look beautiful she did wonderful job. Again sorry. Miss alot since I go away. Ciao Martin!!!!

Thanks All again.
Maggie good to hear from you its been long time.
Was hoping your plants are doing well good to hear they are.
I also was looking at mine and that heirloom you know what i mean is budding out now and getting ready to push out leaves.

Hi Noss i took them down for personal reasons and took them out of photobucket as well. I do store them on disks.
I'll be putting new ones up as the season marches on here and there .

I have a miracle dog story.
On Saturday evening, our tiny, toothless dog got out of my in-laws' house [they have passed on and we are cleaning it out] 230 miles south of there.

She has never run off before, and we finally realized she was gone at 1am when other people got home and she didn't come to the door to greet them

My wife was heartbroken but even after searching all Sunday, we had to return that night because she was on jury duty, for an ongoing trial.
Monday, we put an ad in the paper for a week, starting Tuesday. We put a picture in the ad, and also made an online ad for the same paper with more pictures.

We got a call before 8am Tuesday, a lady found the dog Monday afternoon just as she was about to cross a busy street, 3/4 mile from my in-laws' house. She recognized the dog in the picture.

The lady who found her was really nice and took good care of her.

The miracle was that this sweet little dog survived 36 hours of awful dust storms, in an area filled with predators [coyotes, feral cats, etc.], and presumed lack of food and water.

Martin....I only know you through your postings, and I only joined this forum a few hours ago.  While going through some previous postings, I came across this very sad notice.

I cannot imagine  the painful grief that you indured over so precious a loss.  I too have a devoted companion, and love him more than some members of my own family.  Someone much wiser than I said that a dog possess all of Man's virtues, and none of his vices, or depravities.  How true!

May Butch rest in peace, and may you find consolation.

Respectfully,

Frank

Well thanks Frank.

Here's a funny one: Two fellows, brothers-in-law, came down to the farm to hunt deer, bringing the trusted house dog for an outing. When they returned to their truck, they realized they were sans canine. They were so distraught about returning home to face the frau, that they went instead for some liquid courage. When they finally returned home, they were greeted at the door by the dog wagging his tail and the wife waving a rolling pin.  I love dogs.

This is a true story, as the farm was my folks' and the men I have known since grade school.

I'm sorry about your dog Martin. It's always sad to lose a critter that can't be replaced.

Memories from last season... 2011

I enjoy reading old threads here. There is much knowledge, but there also are some loose ends. This is one:  I read about a fig someone found in someone's yard... and named it Black Beauty 10. The collector raved about it, and it was beautiful - dark skin and amber flesh. Does anyone know what happened to that fig? Was it identified, or propagated?
