This one has been a favorite of the birds. Not sure why. It is a pretty good fig, but there are better in the yard right next to it. Not very dark either which typically the birds go for first, so I don't know why they have zeroed in the  in on this one. They haven't let me have many up until now. The mesh organza bags are saving my crop, without them I probably wouldn't even get to taste this one.

Those bags are fantastic. I am having to put them on when the figs are dime sized because the adolescent squirrels pull them off for fun. Still trying to catch the little buggers but got the raccoon.

Bird or not bird i would eat these figs anyday of the week :)

Elin, This is a Cucumber fig. I think some believe it is the same or similar to Longue D' aout.

How does this one taste?  That is a nice size fig.  You could use something like that for appetizers.  Put a little cheese and prosciutto....

These are pretty good figs, they were a bit better last year, so I'm thinking this odd weather may have something to do with that. Nice and sweet and a pleasant figgy taste. I know some feel larger figs aren't as good as small but this one exceeds most of my smaller figs in taste. I may have an unusual pallet though as some of those smaller dark ones I grow are favored by many other fig growers.

I had been eyeing this one from Almost Eden.  Now that I decided I'd like one of course they don't have any more.  Oh well, you snooze you lose, or so they always say.

Thanks for posting about the cucumber fig.I got 1 from almost eden about a month ago and it is sick with FMV and not growing. They said it suspected to be Adriatic,which would explain the FMV.

    I am nursing along a Longue d'Aout right now and would like to know other synonyms. What makes you say Cucumber = Longue d'Aout?

I heard it from other fig growers, Melanzana merdiscola is another possible name for it. They do look similar but I really don't know if they are the same or not. A search of this site might reveal other synonyms

   I have heard this fig called cetriolo or cerchio in Italian, that is "cucumber." Italian courts are notoriously fickle, so you pick the jurisdiction.

Small eye Pete, with good weather this is a really good fig for taste , but I can hold up to excess rain too as this has been a very rainy year.
