Cultivar Suggestions For Zone 7

The wife and I are settling into our new home.  We hope this will be our last one as we have moved five times in the past ten years.

Anyway...we are in a zone 7 area...sandy well draining Arizona desert soil, 3500 feet elevation,  hot summers, and it rains  and sometimes hails here in the summer as well.  We also get frosts as late as mid April.

I plan to put in 6 or 7 fig trees next spring, and probably some blueberries.  One will be the black mission I saved from our last home.

Survivability of both  trees and the fruit are my primary considerations.  And  I don't want to have to baby these guys any more than necessary.

Suggestions?

Any cultivar making good edible fruits in my climate will make excellent fruits in your dry climates,if it is cold resistant here.
I would start with Marseilles blk vs,Hardy Chicago,or Sal Gene strain first.
Any one of them will produce fruits second year and resist Winter.
Later I would plant JH Adriatic,Malta Black,Gino's fig,Tacoma Violet, and Atreano.
Third choice and with ,winter protection when young,I will try Violette de Bordeaux Ronde de Bordeaux, and Aubique Petite.
Specialties figs will be your last choice after you have experience growing them, and at this point I will try:
Stella
Maltese Falcon
Madeira Black

Sicilian Black
Kathleen Black
Ital 258
Edit:And Scott's Black

Thank you Herman, for taking the time to respond.   I will  try some of those.  And I'll be looking for you on ebay.

Dave, you seem to be in zone 8a because the temperatures in your area do not drop below 10F.

Thanks Boris, but it all depends on which site you look at.   Some say 8...others 7.   I prefer to err on the side of caution, as our area did indeed record temps below 10 degrees last winter.
