curling leaves

I have my fig tree in a large container, for about 4 years. I got great figs the second year but the third year I got lousy tasting figs. This year I cut the roots because they formed a big root ball and the tree, about 3 - 4 feet high, looks beautiful now but a few of the leaves are curling and I see no sign of figs. Is the curling a problem and when will the fruit appear? I'm very new to this fig growing!

If the leaves are curling under, it is typically a sign of a pest. Check for bugs/web on the underside of the leaves.

Hello Gailzee, Just wondering, when you pruned your root ball, did you also prune the bush itself back to match the loss of roots? If not you are asking for fewer roots to supply a larger upper growth.
It takes a while for it to reestablish feeder roots and it may be your problem.  Are you giving your bush a light supplimental feeding weekly to aid it's recovery? Did you repot to a larger pot or use the same one? Even in pots it's important to keep a balance between what's above and below the soil level. Your problem with your fig quality from year to year may be as simple as how you pruned it when dormant. Pruning stimulates new growth and fig production too.  sdpops  Yuma, AZ  zone 10

you wouldn't happen to have a picture , would you? if you pruned the roots when the leaves were already out that could cause the leaves to droop around the edges  especially if it is direct sun if this is the case put it in the shade for a while  but a picture would really help to give a good diagnosis of your problem

I pruned the tree in early spring while the tree was still in the garage. He tree was moved outside in its usual place in the sun in late spring where I pruned the roots. I fed it once per the instructions of a reputable local nursery and used the same pot after pruning. As for a picture, I really don't have the skills to do that, I'm amazed at myself that I figured out this forum. There are not many curled leaves but enough to make me wonder why. When should i expect figs to appear? I don't remember from the 2nd year. Thanks for your help

Now now Gailzee don't be so hard on yourself you are doing a wonderful job as a new member to the forum

Did you check the underside of the leaves as James suggested?

There could be quite a few reasons why the leaves are curling  sometimes its nothing at all if it is only a few leaves it might be a good idea to take it out of the full sun for a while and let it recoop from the root pruning and I would go light on the fertilizer being that you just trimmed the roots

I haven't checked for bugs yet, too dark out but I will tomorrow. Could it have been the cold spring we've had in Connecticut? What worries me more is that I see no fruit, just big beautiful leaves.

This could be the missing piece of the puzzle I'm also in Connecticut my trees were in the greenhouse up until 3 weeks ago growing figs and leaves like crazy the temperatures outside were in the high 80's so I figured it was a good time to bring them out well the last few nights were so chilly it forced the wife to turn the heat on as a matter of fact tonight is going to be 47 degrees well need less to say the trees have stopped in there tracks all growth is at a stand still and some of the leaves are hanging like wet dish towels I don't think it is a problem I just think it needs to be warmer at night your tree could be going through the same thing mine are
