Cutting from Slovinia

My 16 year old niece went on a teen tour and along the way she found a fig tree long story short she brought back a small branch that I can probably get 3 good cuttings. Not sure what type of fig it is. She said the tree was in lake bled. I have it in the fridge now and would like to keep them alive. I'm hoping it's rare for the us In the states. I'll take some pics and upload them when I get a chance. My niece took pics and some video of the tree but it will be a while till I get the pics from her.

I would like to give one or 2 of the cuttings to someone local to get growing and maybe send me a plant in the future. If there is anyone local that wants to give it a shot let me know. I live in nesconset near the smithaven mall.

Good luck with it!  If it's green wood keep it local.  If it's brown or grey it will ship and I'd be happy to root one.

I'll check again but I think they were brown, I can't remember. You'll get the first one if I can ship them.

Hey joshua,

I'd be willing to help grow for you if you have extras still available. Let me know.

Lake Bled is one of the most beautiful scenes - I visited Slovenia about 13 years ago with my in-laws and my family - my father in law had relatives there who made us very welcome.  Wish I had been into figs then...

How do we root the cuttings acquired in summer? same way we root in winter?

Mohan - on Bass's website is this entry in his blog for rooting green wood cuttings - http://www.treesofjoy.com/content/rooting-softwood-fig-cuttings

I tried this method this summer on several cuttings, mostly off my own young trees, but potted them individually rather than all in same bucket.  I covered each with a clear cup.  I lost about a third due to rot, even though I was trying to be careful with the moisture.  I have about 10 new trees using this method, so I consider it successful.

If you are talking about hard wood dormant cuttings, use what has worked for you in the past in any season

Thanks Ed.
