cutting stagnated.

any suggestion on cuttings that's stagnated? two of my Black Madeira cuttings are just not doing anything. i read somewhere that if i provide some air to the soil/root that might make it go further so i poke some holes into the soil.

any other suggestions?

Sounds normal. Your choice is between patience and screwing something up.

i did thought about that after putting holes into the soil.one of CdDB was doing the same thing, but i noticed the root before i poke hole into it.

worst that i can think of was breaking the root in the BM. but i still have one that is doing great.. so hope i don't kill the one that is doing well. didn't poke hole into that one. don't fix things that's not broken.

Unfortunately it is part of the fun and I have some like that where I have moved to my greenhouse this morning to give them a shot of humidity. Fortunate for me as these are the "spares".

My "failures"  get tossed into my compost pile, where they sometimes make a comeback.

Pete,

My BM took forever too.
Leave it alone and let it do its' thing.

Rafed,

Will do. I'm just being greedy. One of the BM cutting is doing fine. But since I heard it's hard to keep BM alive, I want all three cutting to root.

Just need one to make it to being a tree. Then I can get all the cutting/air layer I'll need :)

i've had the same thing happen.  continued root and top growth, then I move from the slim bag (new baggie method) to a 1G pot and the top stops growing.  only one of mine has kept growing.   Glad to know this is somewhat normal...will help me resist the urge to water more or mess with them!

BM had a low percentage take on rooting, and half of them did not make it through the winter. Even when I do air-layers, they are in the greenhouse all winter, till sometime in April before I am satisfied that they are stable and thriving.

Jon, I understand Preto is a high quality fig, very much similar to BM in taste. I suppose Preto is easier to propagate.

i read somewhere that BM doesn't like temp below 50 even when they are tree. is that true? if so, i guess they are not coming out of house until the may down here.

last night, we had low of 35... per the web sites, our last frost is in late april.

Figo Preto appear to be very similar to Black madeira, and has been a better rooter.
