Cuttings

Hi All, I'm still new with growing Fig trees and just wanted to ask about the Pro's/Con's of which time of year is best to start cuttings?   I was planning to use the damp peat moss method and hope for roots.  Thank you.

Hello and welcome,

Spring is best but you can do it any time of year. Some people do it in winter though I think they use special equipment like growing lights. Different techniques work bettter at different times of year.

To start with search the forum history. There are many many many discussions on this topic to get you started!

I rooted some around the October/November 2014 timeframe and grew them by windows/grow lights. Almost half of them have figs growing on them now but I don't think they will have time to ripen. If I had started about a month earlier (September), I might have been able to get more ripe figs this season. But it's my first year so I didn't try it.

If you don't want to grow them inside long, I would say about 1-2 months before your last frost would be a good time.

Just recently stuck some sticks in some potting soil and kept them in a shade. They're already growing out after 3 weeks and now they're going into dampled shade.

What sort of watering/misting method did you use?

You mean potting MIX? I am also curious what you did for watering. Thx.
