After reading a recent post here about converting young trees from a whip form to a bush I decided to do a bit of Spring pruning on two of my trees. I have 2-3 cuttings available from each that are free (except for postage reimbursement) to a good home. Note that the cuttings have started to leaf out but leaves have not progressed much further than green buds. I realize that ideally the cuttings would be dormant but if anyone is willing to give it a try let me know.
The varieties are Violette de Bordeaux and an unknown green fig tentatively called Mildenhall. I obtained the Mildenhall from another grower in Maryland who found it (as a large unkept tree) growing in a field outside of an airforce base in Mildenhall, England, hence the name. It is a green fig with a reddish interior. It seems to be relatively cold hardy as my friend grows her tree unprotected in the ground and gets a good breba crop some years. I haven't yet tasted a fig from this variety but she says it is great. Below is an image of my tree from last year. Once I get figs I will post close up images of the fruit and leaves to see if anyone can identify it but in the meantime if anyone has an idea please let me know.
