I do have some extra cuttings of a "pretty big size,purple/black fig,red flesh, berry flavor"...from the city of KESARIANI,near ATHENS,GREECE.It is a no name fig,20+ years old, from somebody's uncle back yard.I do not have pictures with the fruit.So...first 7(seven)interested members of this forum, they can get 4(four) cuttings each for free, for a $5 shipping.Seven pm's,or seven reply's only on this topic...Thanks. Marius, we need you to name this so we can talk about it when it fruits. I have to write *something* on the label. And there are so many "unknown somethings" that in my opinion, unknown should be left out. There's already an unknown dark Greek.

My 3 (fat) Kesariani fig twigs seem to be doing well (rooting). I only need one - and any spares(s)? will be offered here, just the shipping cost [giving first priority to members that initially just missed out] .

This one has been, by far, my most vigorous cutting. Its at 24 inches now and seems to be growing an inch every other day. I snipped a couple figlets off right before I took this photo but you can see I left one to try this year.

Update: I planted this one shortly after that photo above. The one fig I allowed to develop was pretty accurately described in terms of taste and color - overall a great tasting fig (and from the second node on a first year cutting). "Pretty big size" is pretty subjective but I would disagree. It was only slightly larger than a celeste but maybe that will change as it matures. Its over 7ft tall now and branched into 4 main branches at around 5 ft. where I pinched the tip. It seems to want to grow as an upright tree. Given it was 24 inches tall on 5/31 and is over 84 inches now that's a growth rate of around 3/4 inches a day. Pretty incredible. Since

I'm thrilled to have been gifted a young Kesariani from a very generous member (thank you again soooo much !) It's growing very nicely and is a prized member in my collection. Hopefully next season it will be big enough to take a few cuttings to offer.

Marius, and other forum members: Do you think that this "KESARIANI" is the same, or a very close variation of the "Black Greek" fig? Marius....notice any differences? Just wondering. Frank

Frank, first of all,i kept few Kesariani cuttings for me and I lost all of them. But,i still remember the photos taken in Greece by the owner:a lot different that my Black Greek, similar to Celeste, but bigger in size.I remember his note"it is a super productive tree, all my neighbors got plenty of figs from my tree". These are some of my Black Greek taken this morning.Enjoy !

Marius: Thanks for the added comments and photos of the "Black Greek". The tree looks wonderful. I especially love to see the ripe, almost shriveling figs, hanging to the point where they look like they could rip off from their own weight. Beautiful! Frank

Hello, I am new to this forum, but I just wanted to point out that any fig cuttings or other propagative materials sent to the United States from Greece or any other country require a USDA issued import permit and what is called a post entry quarantine. This is reduce the risk of foreign pests and diseases from getting into the US. Post entry quarantine means that the cutting has to be isolated from other figs for a period of time, usually 2 growing seasons and periodically inspected by a government inspector who will watch for signs of disease. FYI all seeds coming into the US from foreign countries require a USDA APHIS import permit . This is required to prevent the introduction of exotic (to the US) pests and diseases.
