First time fig grower here.I've been rooting 4 cuttings of Sal's EL in moss for just 6 days. Three are tip cuttings, one is a non-tip cutting. All three tip cuttings are pushing bud and they will have leaves in a day or two, but they are not showing any sign of root growth. The non-tip cutting looks as is it did 6 days ago (e.g. a healthy green stick). Is this normal for tip-cuttings to sprout leaves so quickly but lag on rooting?Craig
It's not uncommon. Especially if the tip was already kind of green. It may have already started waking up before you started rooting. I'm not sure how long it takes Sal's EL to root. But I'm sure 6 days isn't long enough. Keep them in the rooting bin for now. Don't worry about the leaves yet. Let us know the status on about day 14. Maybe post a pic. 2 of my Ronde de Bordeaux's pushed out leaves on about day 10, but didn't see any roots til day 22. I put them in cups on day 24. The leaves it had put out in the rooting box are still looking wimpy, but the cuttings have already grown new leaves since they were taken out.
Craig, be patient, don't panic, even if you see few tiny figs here and there... the roots will follow. 3-5 weeks, sometimes even more time.
