cuttings needed

My attention only turned to this fig variety only after it being mention on a recent posting here on the forum. It's the Violetta fig. If anyone can supply me with at least two cuttings from this tree so I can see if it will do well in my zone 5.

I have I think at the last count 20 trees but many are very young. As it stands now they are in 5-gallon pots mostly because of their size. Most are not ready to take cuttings from at this stage. I do have a couple of older fig trees and because I don't have them covered as yet I might be able to take and trade cuttings if you’re interested. If you want to know what I can part with write me at pezzuti@verizon.net.

If a trade is not possible I am willing to take the pay as you go method. I would pay for postage, cuttings and a little for your time if need be.

From what I read it seems like it would be a good tree to get going in my area. Would be interested in knowing what you people that have the tree already think about it.
Thanks for your time.

Lou,
I have it. Stop by my house if you're in a hurry for it. Otherwise check with me in winter if you want it then.

My request has been met. I want to thank those of you for you offers and support.
Thanks you

I have it as well, but has been an under-performer, so far. It originated at Paradise Nursery. It was their name for Violette de Bordeaux.

Lou, I have it also, actually it is called the Bayernfiege Violetta. Excellent fig! Let me know.A winner for me.

I think we must be talking about two different figs.

The Bayernfeige Violetta is a patented tree from the Plattner Nursery in Germany.  Some US growers are licensed to sell it; I got mine from Cloud Mountain, still with a Plattner tag on it.

I know nothing about the other Violettas, however many there are.\

Leave it to the Bavarians!!

(Bayernfeige = Bavaria Fig)

If this can tolerate weather of Bavaria, this should be a very cold tolerant fig that would be suited to z6, maybe even z5 with minimal care.  Not that the weather in Bavaria is terrible, but in my few trips there, it was not amazing either, reminds me of chicago without the wind, or maybe New Hampshire/Vermont.

I would say this should be a good fig for trials in our north.  But if it is patented... this means it's illegal to propogate via cuttings, yes?  Or is it not patented in the USA?  Or are patents internationally recognized?

The Bayernfeige:
Jason, no one will come after you for propagating patented figs for your own garden, for trading with other fig nuts or for giving them to friends.  Just do not establish a commercial nursery and try to sell them.
