cuttings question

I have some black mission, black jack and white genoa cutting, do you guys think they can root in kellogs potting soil, it has chicken manure, kelp meal, and worm castings. i got the cuttings last week, so im going to grow them inside during winter. so basically im going to put the cuttings in moist kellogs potting soil in a clear cup, and cover them with a bag(humidity). does this sound ok?

Fig trees have been propagated for thousands of years by people just sticking branches in the ground.  If that will work, I don't see why your mix won't.  It may not be "optimal", or it may be "magnificent".  You never know until you try.

I would add some perlite, if it were me.

Talking to some old timers and immigrants, just before summer say, June 1st, they take a cutting off a live tree with some leaves and they just stick it in some soil and it roots perfectly.  Plain old dirt

I wouldn't use chicken manure since it's very strong and can burn fine roots.  Save it for mature trees, but only in very small quantities.

Just to add to Andrews post...

If you don't know... never 'hot' manure. It has to be composted or aged for at least 6 months.

But like he said don't use it for rooting at any stage. Only useful out of the chute, literally, is rabbit.

my guess is if this stuff he's using has already been composted and so the chicken poo should be fine. sounds like it's the ingredients in the mix. i would think he paid good money for kellogs potting soil. never heard of it before but looks to be organic.  luke
