Hi All,
I have a bunch of cuttings (5) I'm attempting to root using the "shoebox & sphagnum moss" approach. They've been in for just over 6 weeks (since Oct 13). There are no signs of roots on any of them. No initials, no bulging lenticels, no bumps of any kind. Nothing.
About 3 weeks ago the cutting with the terminal bud sprouted a leaf or two, but within a week or so they had rotted off. (The cutting and bud still look pretty good, though.)
Now all the other cuttings are also starting to push out one, two or even three leaf buds, but no actual leaves yet. I'm worried that they'll start to leaf out and rot (like the first one), all before there are roots of any kind.
Given that they are all showing leaf-bud activity, should I move them from the shoebox into cups with vermiculite under lights? Or should I wait it out in the shoebox and hope for signs of root shoots soon? Or should I monitor them closely and pull them out only after actual leaves have appeared?
Thanks in advance,
Jim
P.S. "The Bulging Lenticels" would be a great name for a rock band!
