cuttings started late

Hi everyone,I started cuttings late last year and some took root.By November they went dormant kept them in they're container for the winter and now that spring is here I am not sure if they survived. How would I care for them.

Welcome Alan.
When did you start the cuttings? Late summer?
(Edit)
If they've been in the dark, and their potting soil has only been been slightly moist for the winter, you can put them on a sunny window sill (inside)
for a couple of weeks, and give them a really small amount of water if the soil is dry beyond 1" of depth.
You should know within a couple of weeks. The buds start swelling pretty quickly. Don't give them too much water until you see two or three large leaves.
If the bark looks wrinkled or shriveled, not ALL is lost, but SOME is.
Got pics?

Alan: Welcome you to this Forum.

Best,

Welcome from me too.  Be sure to put your planting zone in your signature, so people here can better help you.  If your last freeze has past, you can put them outside in partial sun to gradually get them aclimated to the outside.  When you see green growth, and the last freeze has past, that's when to take them outside.

Hi started mid summer.Once I got roots I planted in vermiculite and spagnum moss.Roots filled most of the cups and some got leaves.

Thanks for the reply.I am new to growing figs.I am from northeast Pa.They haven't been in real cold temps all winter.Kept them in my basement where it was chilly.Got about 14 started in late summer.Italian,Chicago hardy and St Peters honey figs.

Hi,
I started some root suckers in august directly in the ground in an 80 Liters plastic trashcan with bottom removed.
They lost their leaves, and made new ones with new growth .
Half of that new growth did die back, but I saw buds starting to open on the stems - that is what you should look for .
Now, I need to water them to help them - but for 3 weeks we had no rain, and the tap water is still cut for the winter-time .

If yours are still in the basement, and you have no frost outside, take them out to an half shaded area for a week or two and then to their final place.

Hi thanks for the help. You can get so much different info off the web its nice to talk with actual people growing figs.Nobody in my area has even heard of growing figs!I will try to post pics.

If they're truly dormant, might be a good time up-pot them to one gallon nursery pots with lightly moistened potting media. Hopefully by the time they wake up and start leafing out, weather will be warm enough outside to start the ol' Yankee Shuffle. Best of luck!

I am sorry to say that my cuttings did not make it thru the winter. But I will be getting new cuttings this week and giving it another try.

Alan,
Don't throw out the old cuttings (which by now can be considered little trees.)  If you think they're dead, just leave them where they are in the basement and bring them outside when the weather gets warmer.  You might be surprised how hard it is to kill these little things once they get going.  They may take a while to wake up and show signs of activity, but there's a good chance they're not dead.

I started new cuttings about twenty.Started half in just potting soil and the other half in a mix or perlite and spaghnam moss.A grower told me to just use potting soil but I had luck with the perlite mix. Its been about two weeks not sure how they are going.Have had a little mold but that stops as soon as I give them a little more fresh air.
