I like a lot of teams. About 7 yrs ago I went to Minnesota to see the Vikings vs Packers. It was cold -7. I was a frozen tamale...LOL Qtbks. Brett Favre vs Caulpepper......Packers won.

The method that has worked best for me is the sphagnum moss method

I place the cuttings in a ziplock with the highest quality sphagnum moss. Moistened of course. I wrap the cuttings loosly in moss and even sometimes go the extra bit and wrap them in moistened newspaper.

I put the baggies in a large Rubbermaid container and place the container about 1-2 feet above a heat register. You want them 70-80 degrees. I use one of those fish tank thermometers.

It takes about 3-4 weeks for roots to form.

Then Being careful not to break the roots, I pot them up into quart pots with a moistened loose potting mix. Then I put them in another container with a lid that I can crack to control moisture. I put the clear container in front of a window and keep the pots watered and the rooting chamber moist, but not wet.

Then it's just a matter of transferring them to a third container as they are weaned in order to make room for more from the bags.

For those who may venture to research a bit, home mushroom growers often use a contraption called Tub-in-Tub (TiT) or Double Tub incubator that may serve well as a cuttings incubator as well, perhaps as an alternative to a heat mat.  

Pretty much all it consists of is two plastic totes or an ice chest and a tote, an adjustable aquarium heater and some water.  The bottom tote or ice chest holds a bit of water with the aquarium heater.  The upper tote floats or sits a bit in the warm water.  

My old one utilized a big ice chest with mineral oil as the liquid.  It saved having to change the water and didn't grow algae or other nasties.  I still have it but it has not been used in a very long time.  May have to fire it up with some cuttings...  

I'm doing the happy dance! Got my cuttings today. Thanks Dan! That's the nicest bunch of cuttings I've ever received. I'm assuming that as green as they are, I'd best root them now and keep them indoors for the winter. Wish me luck.

Thanks Dan, got my cuttings yesterday!  I really wasn't expecting more than 1 per variety, so thanks for the surprise as well!

I was hoping to root them in January, but most were green so I started them rooting (baggie method).  The rest are in the fridge. 

Cyberfarmer - I think the green cuttings will rot if you try to store them.  Best to root them now IMO.

Paul, I stored some green cuttings for a couple of months and lost some to mold before deciding to stick them all to root them and then I had about a 50% success rate.  These were not very hard, though, and not all "green" cuttings are the same, with some being more mature than others.  Unless you have some reason to delay rooting, the sooner the better, IMO.

Personally, I wouldn't be able to wait till march. I would store them for the month of Nov, moss them for December and be potting in January. That's me though.

Thanks to all who reached out and bought the packages. 

I finished packing the babies into the garage for the winter.   It got me thinking that If anyone didn't receive their package PM message me and I will give you the tracking #.

Also let me know how the cuttings arrived and if you thought that they were worth the cost.   It was a bit more work than I thought it was going to be.  I was up past midnight packing all of the packages up.    I'm thinking of doing this again next Sunday night and want to make sure what I offered was worth it to everyone.

I also have some plants to give away if you can make it here in the next week or so.  I only ask that I keep the pots.  PM me if interested.

I do have some spare black pots to give away.

Different varieties for next Sunday.  I was just worried they were too green.  I just don't want people to have problems.
