Dare to compair

looking at the growth habbits of 3 varieties. hardy chicago, VdB, and MsvB.

I am planting a hedge of figs in spring and wanting to get kinds that grow simaler to one another. so if any one could size these up to each other and offer thier input it would be awsome in helping get the plan laid out.

hedge will be planted in zone 6b Illinois

i just started rooting HC and MsvB, so i have no clue on them. however, my VdB is a dwarf. it grows well and put on good amount of figs, but not shooting up like Paradiso or Kathleen's Black.

VdB is by nature a dwarf!

I think hardy chicago might be as well. mine hasnt got very big in the 2 year i have had it in ground. about 3 foot tall now. but i havent gave it ny miracle grow or bloodmean ever. just composted poo. maybe i will give it blood meal in early spring before the buds pop.

Thank you. wonderful looking tree.

Since all will eventually grow big enough to need pruning I'm not sure it matters  :)

One warning, various strains of Bordeaux figs are sold as VdB, and some are most certainly NOT dwarf!

that is some need to know info shah8 thank you.

Doug, where (if you dont mind me asking) did you obtain your blue ischia? I bought blue ischia this year
Still a starter plant but curious as to if thats what I ended up with. Hopefully next year I can get maybe one fig to compare
with blue ischia that members have that they are certain are blue ischia. Just wondering. Thanks

My VDb is no dwarf and it is a Vdb in a large container .  ; )
I chuckle when i read fig tree is dwarf some just grow slower than others.
