Dark Portugal ?

I have a question dark Portugal? Is the same as Dark Portuguese? Because I bought 2 fig cuttings on E-bay and the lady put the name Dark Portugal? I just want to make sure if they are the same?

Many figs are given a name like that - Black, green, red. Good luck with rooting and keep us posted on its
profile in 2 to 3 yrs.

Jerval, who was your eBay seller?

I have one labeled Black Portugues, maybe they are all different..???

Fellows, the attached pictures are all of Portuguese dark figs
None in Portugal  is called 'Dark Portugal' or ' Portuguese Dark' or 'Black Portugues' or ....
and there are some more , all with dark colors..

Thank You Francisco, Beautiful Pictures and Figs, Thanks for Sharing.!!!!

Francisco, great pictures.  The confusion may be that Belleclare nursery sold a fig called Black Portuguese (I can't seem to find the # they used), and Bass has a fig called dark Portugal.  These two have been readily available in the states for some time now.  They are not the same fig.  Problem is like you said there are lots of dark/black Portuguese figs.

Thanks Francisco, nice photography. Sometimes confusing, but one thing for sure, I am not confused about wanting at least one of each of the figs from your photos.

Hi HarveyC the ebay seller was momof6k. Her husband who is also a member of this website, he sent me a pm and he was nice enough to explain everything for me. Btw he told me that he has a big collection ( he explained to me that the way he names his figs is by the source that they are(Dark Portugal), this came from a forum member at least 4 years ago ). He told me that its a very good fig.

Jerval, any chance you have any information on ENRICO L ? I know there is an ENRICO
dark fig and I wonder whether they are the same fig. The Enrico fig that I know is a very
good fig and I have this tree since I started growing figs.

Hi Paully22 ... it was a gift from MOMOF6K the E-Bay seller who I bought the Dark Portugal and Col De Dame fig Cuttings she gave me as a extra cuttings I hope it's a good fig too

Thanks, Jerval, hope those grow well for you.

Ed, Bass's fig is called "Dark Portuguese".  I'm growing it also.  His unknown fig has reportedly been in the USA since the early 1900s and he told me the other day that the old Portuguese guy that shared it with him died last year and Bass had brought the son up to date on the background and popularity of the fig.

Appreciate the info Jerval. The Enrico fig here was discover by friend in Vancouver and he gave it a name. This fig was said to have originated from Italy.
I am not sure whether the ENRICO L is similar to Enrico. I wonder what the letter "L" means. I have posted pictures of Enrico fig in this forum some 4 or
5 years back.

Got this from a generous member here by the name black portugal.
Dont know what to say-- it was one of the best i had for a 1 year plant.
The leafs are usually one lobbed and the growth is slow.
Hoping for a good crop nexy year

I am thankful for a private mail explaining the information related to ENRICO L. This fig(Enrico L) is
NOT SIMILAR TO ENRICO. Information on Enrico L is --- it is a local family fig from PALERMO
region. The lady who grew it named this fig in memory of her father. It is similar to HC & Sal's EL
but ripens a bit later.

The ENRICO I have is a dark medium to large fig. Bears 2 crop. The breba crop produces a large
fig and the main crop produces a medium size fig. Main crop is productive and it ripens later than
HC and Sal's. A very good fig. The Enrico fig holds up pretty good to some rain.
