dark spots appearing on celeste figs after rain

Hello, we are growing celeste figs in Texas. Been hot n dry, then right before first harvest, we had a day of heavy rain. Then dry, but we pick them everyday. A couple days later, more spots, it is raining today. We don't know what they are?? Anyone have any idea?
Thank you,
Roxanne

Maybe too much rain. Figs need a hot and dry period to full ripen. It may be the fruit is going bad from too much rain. Some figs are resistance to this. However I don't know where celeste stands on the water resistance scale.

Picture might help.

Ok, I hope I got the picture to work...

YAY!!!
Ok, so we got 11 pounds. 3 of them had the spots. I just wanna know if this is something that should be removed? Is it harmful to me, or the other figs? How can I prevent this?
thankyou

From the pic it looks like a normal really ripe Celeste.

Looks normal to me.

When you said dark spots I pictured black nasty moldy things.

Roxanne,
I think those are what's reffered to as sugar spots. If they are picked before they are fully ripe, they may not get those spots.

Spots like these are quite normal, and actually quite characteristic. I expect in you you climate they might look a little different.

those looks fine to me. i though you were talking about fungal attack..

After seeing and eating the Hollier at the LSU fig meet I would jump all over those. They look really good. I bet they have a great taste. Please let us know.

Pictures on the facebook of today's hall.

Only a couple, had those black spots. I think they get moldy spots on the skin, cause the ones from today are beautiful, and HUge.  We've had to pick them early, because it;s been non'stop raining.

Thank you for your help.

Roxanne, you got the mother load! Great job!

Hey, if you hot to see my link to this years pictures, I forgot to say that last year we got 150 lbs of figs.  We have 3 trees planted close together in the back yard and 2 trees in the front yard. I'll have to take some pictures for this year.
Those spots have something to do with the moisture. We went from 100 degree temps one day, then raining and 70's next day. I decided to carve off the offensive spots, put them in my baking bag, and keep on cleaning figs.
The trees in the front yard are so big, I'm about to have only fig trees for a front yard, which I think is great!!
We tie the sparkly ribbon on the limbs, got some of the stuff they use in CAlifornia for the grapevines, and out it on. Now, and for a few years, the neighbors kept asking what holiday we were celebrating. I'd patiently explain that it's to keep the birds away from the trees.
Anyway, when I get the time. I'll get a picture of the trees.
We have a TON this year.
It's fig harvesting time in Texas ;)
Have a good one ya'll.
Thank you,
Roxanne
