Darn Weather

I have a few figs turning and a few small plants in DQ Cups.
Now the weather has been low 70s for last week and normal temp is 79 for this time of year.
Lots of rain lately after a dry cool spell and yesterday , today the high did not get out of 60s tomorrow and Sunday will be mid 60s and next 3 night the temps acording to weatherman will be in mid 40s so about 45 at best by me.
Just a rough year some say today at the high school football game where did the summer go as 99% had sweatshirts and jackets and i refused and wore a tee shirt but had goose bumps thruout the game.
Were did our summer go, what summer?
Figs will come in late this year for me.
Martin

Martin, they must have fixed the global warming thing.....just being funny, I couldn't help myself. It sounds like you had a bad summer up north. We had our usual hot and sticky summer in Louisiana.

Dieseler,
You are asking "where did the summer go ?". For sure it did not come this way. You are just experiencing Northern summer hiccups with cold and rain. We have been having 45F at nights for the last few days and today's max is 57F. Go figure if we shall have ripe figs here in Ottawa this year! Montreal and most of Toronto, like your location, behave a bit better than our Zone 5. But I still believe all the trouble of growing these figs is worth it (or is it addiction).
Someone recently posted that because of age he is in a hurry about the figs. I feel the same way and would probably settle on a few good early ripening varieties for colder climate and a few good ones for 'breba only' types rather than trying many unknowns (except evaluating a couple of good dark varities for extra fun). Thinking of it, it fits description of your collection.
Keep hope for ripe figs. It is going to clear up by Monday or closer to it.

Good exposition of your new plants progress. They look very healthy. I am sure they will have good future in your care and I hope they will respond with good EARLY rewards.

Martin, I feel your pain, in reverse. We are having hottest weather in many years, and looks set to run for another week still. See post: "Hotter than..."
