Saint Jean was awful in rain here and Pastiliere is only partly persistent, and will drop fruits as Dieseler stated.
For me Pastiliere dropped all fruits and so Both mentioned cultivars are in Fig Haven ,by now.
And Dauphine ,if it makes problems in San Diego, will also be a disaster here,in my rainy humid climate,no doubt.
Cultivars that are a big Winner in better climates, like Violette de Bordeaux,Marseilles vs black,Hardy Chicago,Celeste, here sometime are spoiling when long lasting cold rains come after August 15,yet they are the best I can have here.
So if you have a nice dry hot climate, you can grow any cultivar and be Happy with them, but if ,climate is not like in Southern France you better look hard for a cultivar that can take your local condition.
Why look hard?.
Because they will be very few and far in between,so,i wish you all good luck from the first cultivar you try.
For me it took a lot of cultivars and a lot of work to find a few that will grow well here.
