Davis and its permaculture village

  a paradise!

an example of approaching nature in urban areas for the benefit of all.  They are building a food forest in Seattle and I am excited about it.  I am nursing some little trees and raspberries to bring  to them.

Thanks for the post Grasa.  I haven't seen that video of Bill's.  Are you edible landscaped in like that too?  If so, any polyculture patches that are functioning particularly well for you?

Greg, my Caroline Raspberries are literally under my fig tree, and they did extremely well this year, so, did my tree, I got the 2 harvest from in. I would have more strawberries below, but my chickens scratched them. This year they will be more contained, and I am hoping to utilize the understory better with crawling raspberries.
I also planted a patch of comfrey under one of my new apple trees (5 in a  hedge format) that particular tree grew much more than the others, so I am not sure if the comfrey helped it streatch its roots or if the variety was a stronger one. This year, I will do a lot more condensed, with more flowers also.

Sounds very nice, thanks.  I've noticed that my oregano is growing nicely in the shade of my apple tree.  The intent is to discourage voles, act as an aromatic pest confuser, and provide flowers for pollinators.  No controlled experiments here, but the apple and oregano both look very happy.  Also, my ramps are doing great under all my fruit trees and shrubs.
