Daydream 2013

So right now many of us are rooting cuttings and looking forward to the upcoming growing season. I am curious what varieties folks are looking forward to the most and why. I will start by listing my picks.

Brogiotto Nero
This variety is what caused me to join the forum. I look forward to seeing how it grows and if it has FMV.

Col de Dame Noir
Have heard so many good things about these variants I can't wait to see how it performs here in NW Ga.

Black Madeira. the king.. the grail.. the one and only.. it's the fig that i have been dreaming about since i first show jon's pictures.

Col de Dame Blanche. another great light fig with dark red.

Calvert. curse that FMV, but i'll taste this one.

Ischia White. grows like a champ. in our weather, i'm sure it will be something.

JH Adiatic. need is say more?

Genovese Nero. i'm saving a spoon per adriano's page.

Ronde de Bordeaux. heard so much about this one.

Any of the cuttings I have received!  I have memories of my families fig tree - it's still there alive and kicking after over 80 years!  My own LSU Purple (ID'd here on the forum) and some Brown Turkeys.

I don't know if any of the cuttings will produce this year but I am excited to see how well they grow!

joann,

chances are you do not want your cuttings to keep the figs this year. next year, you will got first crop. VdB will put on decent crop next year. first year VdB was amazing. strong berry taste. thick as jam... providing that the weather cooperates. :)

Does weather cooperating mean hot as h---?  That shouldn't be a problem here ;)

well.. hot as h*** works.. but little rain as possible is more important. the rain for whatever reason bleeds the flavor :)

I don't think I'll have a problem with the little rain either!

Joann,
I know what you mean. I am excited about all of my varieties......all 15 of them. Thanks to a couple of purchases and the generosity of a few great members. Honestly my excitement has been shifting from variety to variety as I see new roots and shoots. I just enjoy watching all of my cuttings grow.

I agree with bullet on pulling off this years fruit to improve growth. If you have a plant that grows 5-6 feet it should be okay to leave one or two fruit to ripen.

Good luck
