Deanna and Friends

Between chasing birds and covering my trees with nettings, I got a chance to take some photos of 2 very sweet figs I picked, Deanna and Strawberry.  Both were very sweet.  I think I picked Strawberry a day or two too soon but I had 2 huge Brown Thrashers checking my trees on my deck so I picked it anyway.  The Thrashers could not tell if the fig was ripe but I took a shot at it away.  Deanna swole up and fell from my tree. Two days before it did I placed the tree on my wagon cart and it fell safety there without spliting.  It was ripe and very good but not rich as Hardy Chicago.  Below are some picture, enjoy!  cheers, Dennis

is that a brown turkey in the top right corner of the last picture?  Look a little small for one, but the colors are close to what mine are a day or three before ripe.

Jason, that is one of my Marseille VS figs.  I pick those about every 3 days.  Tom, Deanna grows fast.  It has already out grown my 3 gallon pot and the tree is only 2 years old.  But it is loaded with figs!  So, I'll plant it in the ground this Fall.  As for those Brown Thrashers, they do look like a brown Mockingbird.  And get this, those in my back yard feed together.  Whereever you see a Mockingbird, a Brown Thrasher is close by!  They try to hit my fig trees together.  And sometimes a Cardinal will be right behind them.  One Mockingbird died....I have no idea how that happened.  Hehehe
