Del Monte St and Narragansett St Figs

Here are a few photos I took today of the figs JD and I found last fall. Jon and I have/had cuttings from the green fig only.

The first 4 images are of the fig on Del Monte. The owners were not home. I think it's a Mission. What do you think?

The next 4 images are of the black fig on Narragansett, who wouldn't allow us cuttings without the wife's permission. ;-) I think it's a Mission too...

The last 3 are Phil's green fig on Narragansett. Phil's tree is very prolific! Look at all those figs!

Sorry no photos showing!

Darn software...found out if you go back and edit after posting the images don't show up. Have to post again and they come back...strange...

yum!

Sue i just did a test .
Check out thread - Picture Testing.

In Short when editing if you have picture and edit by click the "Save" window picture appears but disappears when you go back a minute later say to check if anyone posted in the thread.

But if you have picture and edit by click the  "Advance" window picture is stays even when you go back to the post.

Hi Sue,
Nice pictures and great find. I agree. I too, think its Mission. Looks like the one I have. On your first post I was able to view the first three by clicking on each. On the 4th it demanded I log in with my name and pass word before viewing. That happened to me yesterday on another post. Now I see your post has changed and the small photes are there in the post. A little odd to say the least but I saw all the pictures on both posts.

My figs in the garage are all budding out and about half of them have leaves and tiny figs but it is still much too cold to put them outside. I put them out too early last year and lost all the breba crop due to the late night freeze. I learned my lesson. I just hope it warms up here in CT.

Hi Sue,

What kind of gravel is that under the tree in the second photo at the top?  I wonder if that would be good to put under fig trees in Hot Louisiana to hold moisture in the soil?

What are your thoughts ab out that?

Thanks,

noss

Lovely photos Sue thanks for posting them. Wow lots of breba on the Narragansett fig great find.

Noss,

looks like a very thin layer of pea gravel. A thicker layer of gravel would accomplish what you seek without decomposing. However, it will make fertilizing a bit more challenging (if you have to do that).

Noss, I believe Ruben is correct, it is a pea gravel.

Nelson, the green fig on Narragansett makes ones mouth water in anticipation of all those figs! I'll check back during summer to get pics of ripe fruit and maybe a little taste treat too.

This thread has prompted me to contact my relatives in CA (San Diego County also) to see if any of them have any figs growing on their property or if their friends/neighbors do.  Makes me wish I lived in a warmer climate, the plants that can be grown there....big sigh.  And I am drooling looking at the green fig on Narragansett!   Great pictures, great information!!!

Hi Sue, Great pics.
My fig trees are outside now which are beginning to bud.
